September is Save Your Photos Month, a time to celebrate the power of photographs as gateways to cherished memories. This year’s theme, “One Photo, One Story,” invites us to explore our personal stories.

Let me share my One Photo, One Story which is very close to my heart. It’s about my Aunt Idavon, who lived to 92. Despite Alzheimer's, she cherished her memories. Among my mother's things, I found this negative. Curious, I developed it and showed it to Aunt Idavon.

Her eyes twinkled with recognition. “That's me,” she said, grinning, “and I hated that dress!” Her words unlocked a moment from long ago, showing how a photo can evoke emotions.

The story behind the dress? It was her fifth birthday, and her brother promised something red. She dreamt of a shiny red wagon but instead received this red dress. Despite the initial disappointment, it became a cherished memory of her brother’s love.

Stories like Aunt Idavon's show the connection between photos and personal narratives. They capture emotions and experiences. This September, let’s celebrate Save Your Photos Month by sharing our stories.
