In Cade’s Cove yesterday, I stood across the Loop Road from a momma bear and her tiny one trouncing through a field. While taking a video of her, momma bear stood erect. I enjoyed hearing a lady get excited by the awesome sight.

“Nehemiah”

While at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference, my friends and I found a cute chipmunk eating seeds. We named him Nehemiah.

May you see the Lord in His creation today.

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” Romans 1:20

“Happy Mother’s Day”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

My favorite thing in the world to photograph is black bear cubs. They are so adorable!

Mother’s Day is Sunday, so I wanted to share this video. Mama bear is on the lookout 24/7 for her babies. The babies sometimes are unaware of danger, but Mama uses her senses to alert her of danger.

My mamma is in Heaven as she asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. She passed away in 2004. Jesus was an integral part of her life.

Do you know Him?

“This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” Psalm 91:2

“Mayhem”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Yesterday was a first for me in the Cove. We had a horse/bear jam. A mom and three spring cubs were on one side of Loop Road, and on the other side was a mama and her yearlings. Everyone was roaring at the accomplishments of the cubs as they climbed the tree—the visitors could be heard a mile away.

Next thing we know, the stable horses let loose and stormed Hyatt Lane. It was amazing and hysterical at the same time.

Instead of corraling the horses, everyone was corralled on Daffodil Hill to help the situation.

The bears didn’t know what to do. The mama and yearlings ran into the woods. The mama with the babies was on alert.

I tried to convince one horse that he wasn’t supposed to be on the Loop Road. He didn’t listen. He then climbed Daffodil Hill and joined the visitors.

The lead horse led the horses through the field one by one. The party was over, and soon after, a stable hand helped them back to the barn.

Sorry if you were in the horse/bear jam. The volunteer was doing an excellent job. She said, “No one got bitten or hurt.”

It was a wonderful day. I don’t think it will ever be repeated!

“Blessings Upon Blessings”

Monday was a spectacular day in Cades Cove. The bears were plentiful. I even lost track of how many I saw.

To top it off, I was there with some good friends. One friend was a guy who originally told me about Cades Cove many moons ago when I was living in Georgia.

I was photographing with this friend one day, and he asked me if I had ever been to Cades Cove.

I said, “Cades Cove?”

He said, “You’ve never been to Cades Cove?”

I had never heard of it. I am indebted to him for telling me about the Cove. It is truly Heaven on earth:)

“Happy Saint Patrick’s Day” – cell phone photos 3/16/26

Instead of the traditional green, I’m celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with memories of the beautiful white snow that fell on Cades Cove yesterday.

The morning started dreary and drizzly, but with a promise of snow, I had to go. I haven’t been to Cades Cove in a month and missed it's peace and tranquility.

My fingers nearly froze while taking photos of the beautiful landscape with my big girl camera. I went through one pair of wet gloves, then got creative and found a single glove and a sock, and finally had to use another pair of socks because the others were wet.

I hiked from Hyatt to Sparks and back and saw a lot of beautiful scenery. It was a long day—I left around 8 PM.

I hope you enjoy!

“A Subtle Snow”

Yesterday was the first time I’ve been to Cades Cove and didn't see a single person until I got to Hyatt. It was refreshing to think that I had the Cove to myself. There was just a passing visitor here and again. The traffic didn’t really start to come in until around 11:30.

If you haven’t been to the Cove in the winter, you’re missing out. Yes, the temperature was in the low 20s most of the day, but it was beautiful. The occasional snow flurries made it all the better.

“A Magical Morning” - December 30, 2025
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I knew it was coming. I looked towards the mountains and saw white coming our way.

"Wait here for five minutes. We’re gonna see a snowstorm," I told my friend.

We drove to the John Oliver, and here it came. It snowed and snowed and snowed. It snowed for two hours.

It was 9:53 a.m., and I could have gone home—I was filled with joy.

What was the chance of snow? I don't know, but in Alcoa it was 2%.

Jesus answered my prayer. He is so good to me, even when I don’t deserve it. Jesus, you are so amazing!

“It was so great seeing your snowflakes today,” I said to Him.

My friend and I enjoyed walking in the snow when I took this photo. I was giddy as a school kid.

I kept saying, "Thank You. Thank You. Thank You."

Happy New Year!! May the Lord bless you immeasurably this year.

“Balloon Bear”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography - 12/19/25

Friday was a fantastic day in the Cove. My friends and I pray before we go out and photograph. I prayed for the Lord to show or bring to me what He wants me to photograph.

The day started with a bang and ended with one.

I didn’t know the park now featured balloon bears for the visitors to see. It is as though someone put a straw in the bear's mouth and blew him up. That’s one ginormous bear!

He said, “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.”
