Reminders!
Let’s talk about BUNNIES as PETS! 🐰
I’ve had tons of questions along this line recently and decided to write a quick posts for potential pet owners to look over!
A few things to know:
🤍Bunnies are fragile at any age. They are highly sensitive animals of prey by nature. If you have an extremely young child that wants a cuddly bunny. Do your research first. They may do better with a puppy or even a stuffed puppy. 💕😉
🤍Bunnies really shouldn’t be picked up by the fur, ears or any other limb. Why? First of all it’s dangerous. Second, it hurts them. And once again, prey animal - so correct holding is SUPER important to help them feel safe.
🤍Bunnies cannot be turned loose in a house/yard without supervision. They can chew on cords... or other materials. Even certain types of plants or GRASS can hurt baby bunny tummies if they aren’t prepared for it! An unsupervised rabbit is a good way to lose your precious pet.
🤍Bunnies can nip. Most of the time, they are NOT biting to be mean. You may smell nice or they may be trying to communicate with you. Or they may simply be afraid. Some types of biting from aggression should not be tolerated. But, even with normal bun behavior, they can be nippy.
🤍Bunnies have NAILS. You can keep them trimmed. But, they do get wiggly and a small child can get scratched. My boys do use wrist bands to handle larger breeds. Happy to share that info privately.
🤍Bunny diet is vital. In order to have a healthy bun, they require the proper feed... enough water and even the optional hay to keep that digestive system on track.
🤍Bunnies do not require baths like puppies do. They will occasionally need a “bottom bath” for any residue left down low. But they are excellent at keeping themselves in tip top shape!
🤍Bunnies as adults can show dominance and even harm one another on occasion if kept in groups. It’s harsh reality. But, they’re animals! 👏🏻👏🏻 Do research and keep them with only what’s appropriate for their age and s*x.
🤍Bunnies have personalities. Not all buns like cuddles. They’re an exotic animal. Even if they’re cute. 😉
🤍Bunnies SHED. Yep, they sure do. They molt in different seasons and they shed. So if you have allergies or can’t handle hair. It’s something to consider! 👍🏻
🤍Bunnies that are considered “pet quality” to a bunny breeder is why the price is significantly less than a show bunny type. It cannot be shown. It has nothing to do with the friendliness or cuteness of the rabbit. But, for a show quality body - sometimes you get what you pay for! 👍🏻
I may add more to this list as we go for info purposes! But this is a good start! 💕💕💕
