Did you know that the dandelion has a twin?
The dandelion twin, known as a cats ear is very similar in appearance with yellow jagged end petals and a long stem. The cats ear however grows on a stem with multiple other flowers branching out, while the dandelion is on a single stem. Dandelion’s can be useful with health benefits and roots can be made into tea.

Cats ear can be invasive and toxic to horses. While humans can ingest cats ear and should never be fed to horses as it can cause stringhalt which is a motor disorder causing jerky movements in the hind legs.

So next time you’re out in your garden take a second look to see if you can spot the difference!

Did you know that dragonflies and damselflies are NOT the same? While these two insects look similar they are actually pretty different from each other. These two insects are in the same taxonomic family, Odonata. They look pretty similar and are often called odonates.

Damselflies rest with their wings together but not folded. Dragonflies rest with wings apart. This is a unique trait and a result of their aerial lifestyle. These two insects are also predators for flying insects like mosquitoes and gnats. This makes them helpful to humans by keeping those pesky insects that could carry diseases in line.

These insects help us track the health of our fresh bodies of water and serve as an important role in the food web. Not to mention the uniqueness of these little flying creatures! Being one of the very first insects to inhabit our planet, many millions of years ago even before dinosaurs, make them uniquely ancient insects. 🌎

Horses can’t breathe through their mouth

Horses are obligate nasal breathers. This means that they are unable to breathe through their mouth as humans can. Horses can only breathe through their nose.

Donkey fact of the day🫏

The donkey's characteristic sound is called braying. It is unique among the equids because it requires an ability that donkeys have but horses and zebras lack: vocalizing while both inhaling and exhaling. The hee occurs during air intake, and the haw comes during air outflow.

Donkey fact of the day 🫏

Donkeys evolved in arid locations in Africa and Asia where temperatures can be rather toasty at times.
The long ears on donkeys act as heat dissipation. The larger surface area helps the donkey expel its internal heat at a high rate to stay cool in the hot desert environments.
The ears are also a radar for sense of hearing, so the ears can pick up the calls of herd mates — and predators — from miles away.
