A COVID-19 WORLD IS DIFFERENT ... Stay Motivated By Giving Yourself Permission To Take Time To Adapt

MOTIVATION ... your willingness to do something is being challenged. It's OK to put off projects, rethink the basics and take time to process. After all, we've just had the rug pulled out from under us, especially if you own a small business.

A MOMENT OF REFLECTION ... in this new world we will have to fight, adapt & improvise in many ways. You need time and space to reflect. If you own a business, what is the "base" level of your business? Will you ever return to "normal"? What would be your "new normal"?

"TO DO LIST" OUT THE WINDOW? Make a new one with flexibility to shift priorities. The world has made a 180-degree dynamic shift, it's OK to give yourself permission to shift too.

NOT GETTING THINGS DONE? Projects can sit on the back burner for awhile. There are still many unknowns and your digesting a lot of things that will change your world. What worked yesterday is no longer valid. What may work today may not work in 3 months. Take your time.

HAVE A GREAT IDEA? Write it down, you don't have to act on it now. Just writing ideas down or keeping a journal of "great thoughts" gives them legs. You can expand and process better without having to try and remember the original idea.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, take care of yourself!

WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT, GO LEFT!
This is so true, everything I anticipated for my business in 2020 has gone a different direction ... right, left, up, down, inside out & backwards. Just going with the flow right now until this challenging year slows down a bit and I can see the path in front of me.

How are you doing?

CURB SIDE SERVICE On Main Street!

In these uncertain times, several businesses have announced they will offer "quick" walk-in or curb side service. Make sure to call ahead if you're picking up curb side. Please check their open hours, menus & availability in advance.

ALMA Wisconsin: Historic River Town has no "fast food" outlets or chain stores on our Main Street other than picking up a sandwich at Kwik Trip from their "hot spot" service.

THINKING THIS THROUGH ... every day brings another impact of COVID-19 and this is "my brain" trying to figure out how to design content messages for my clients & my lodging businesses that are positive, uplifting & forward thinking.

4 IDEAS FOR "LOCAL SOCIAL DISTANCING"
Practice social "distancing" from people, not nature!

ALMA Wisconsin: Historic River Town is a rural river town on the Mississippi River. No big box stores in our county and only one stop light. Lots of opportunity to be out & about without putting yourself or others at risk.

SPRING MIGRATION is underway, especially with our warm weather. Make sure to check out Rieck's Lake Park, a favorite stopover. But you'll also find spring migrators like these American White Pelicans in our local backwater areas too.

BACK ROAD DRIVING is at it's best in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. We have 470 miles of paved two-lane roads throughout the county that twist & turn through our Driftless Area topography. Century family farms, Sandhill Cranes & more on the creeks, historic churches and so much more.

FISHING HOLES are so numerous that you can take an afternoon for your favorite pastime and not run into another person. 20 Boat Landings, numerous docks and easily accessible backwater spots make for a great outing.

HIKING TRAILS allow you to enjoy our local natural environment safely. Check out Buffalo County Trails for more info and the list below:

-- Buena Vista Trail, Park & Overlook (Alma, see picture)
-- Mossy Hollow Trails (Alma)
-- Whitman Dam D**e Road (Buffalo City)
-- Eagle Valley Trails (Fountain City)

BUFFALO COUNTY RIFLES In The Civil War
New Exhibit Opening May 23rd at the Alma Area Museum

Of the 350 men who served in the American Civil War from Buffalo County, 68 of them were known as the Buffalo County Rifles. Organized & trained by John Hauser, a Swiss immigrant from Fountain City WI. He was a professional soldier & trained at the Swiss Military Academy in Thun, Switzerland.

The Buffalo County Rifles joined the 6th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, the only all-Western brigade in the Eastern armies of the Union. Under the command of General Ulysses S Grant for most of the war, they were part of the First Brigade of the First Corps of the US Army of the Potomac. After the battle at Stone Mountain the brigade took on the name "The Iron Brigade" because they "stood like iron" in the face of withering enemy fire.

Through histories, memoirs and letters you'll learn more about their war experiences and yearnings to return home to their families & farms and the rivers, bluffs and valleys of Buffalo County, Wisconsin.

Do you have family information or artificats you would share in the development of this exhibit? Please contact Dorothy Peterson, curator of the Alma Area Museum, at 608-685-3554.
