Labor Day weekend feeling! Enjoying the 10 degree drop in the heat today but preparing for a still-way-warmer-than-anyone-likes September!

So many photos that I love from this session, it was hard to choose what to share.

We wrapped up Madeline’s first year last month and she turns one today (Happy Birthday Mads!). It seems like just yesterday we were taking their announcement photos with Nora Drew sitting in that little rocking chair!

It’s such a joy spending a whole year with a family and watching their kids grow. 💗

A never really understood how much could change in a year until I had kids. Unfortunately, there’s no time machine (let me know when there is) to take us back to their gummy smiles or to when everyone still fit on dad’s shoulders, except in our memories. The closest thing we’ve got is photos to enjoy with them, to flip through on the couch together when they are home from college for the weekend 12 years from now.

Well just do them next year, you think. Why not do them now? For their tiny fingers will only get bigger, and bouncy girls will get softer. For next year they may stand a whole head taller than they would today.

I’ve been photographing this precious fam for 5 years now and it’s always amazing to see how much the kids have grown from one year to the next.

Everything comes full circle when I photograph a family with their second baby. I took Iroh’s newborn photos about the same time my first was born and he became a big brother around the time my daughter became a big sister. It’s beautiful to experience it and equally as wonderful to document it for families I’ve been photographing for years ✨

Your little one is the star of their first birthday session, but parents are just as important ✨

Milestone sessions are my absolute favorite to capture, not only for the chunky thighs, frosting fingers and toes, and baby cheeks (which are the BEST), but to see the genuine joy in parents captured on camera.

I love a good studio session for birthdays and milestones, but this outdoor 1st birthday session was just so much fun! 🌺
