The Quarterly Uniform Crime Report (Q1), January-March, 2024, provides a preliminary look at crime trends for January through March 2024 compared to January through March 2023. A comparison of data from agencies that voluntarily submitted at least two or more common months of data for January through March 2023 and 2024 indicates reported violent crime decreased by 15.2 percent. Murder decreased by 26.4 percent, r**e decreased by 25.7 percent, robbery decreased by 17.8 percent, and aggravated assault decreased by 12.5 percent. Reported property crime also decreased by 15.1 percent

Special Thanks to the Canyonlands National Parks for choosing my Chocolate Drops for their 2025 Canyon Country Calendar. The view is from the Maze District of Canyonlands NP photographed on the morning before we started our 4 day hike of the Maze trail. The month was April and temperatures were over 120 degrees!

Mahlon Dickerson Reservation is a gem of New Jersey’s parks. It contains species that are uncommon to rare such as th Black Spruce to North Flying Squirrel and uncommon species like Porcupine and Timber Rattlesnake. Here is a tributary of Russia Brook that originate from the Pine Swamp a botanist’s dream of rare plants.

Intact forests make water out of air. Clearcuts destroy that process. Studies show that forests hold water while clearcuts increase flooding and droughts never mind that they increase ground temperatures and dry out faster- yes do mind-they also increase moisture in the form of rain in downwind states and the farms and fields it rains on. The droughts of the west are caused by clearcuts.
