There has been lots of commentary regarding the use of AI in photography. Today, VSCO (Visual Supply Company, vsco.co) announced that 83% of photographers in general now use AI in their workflow -- mostly in post processing. I use AI features in Adobe Lightroom Classic, Adobe Photoshop, Topaz Labs, and Luminar Neo. AI capabilities in photo applications are "ubiquitous."

March 20, 2026 — the first day of spring — and the golden hour sun over Downtown Anacortes decided to put on a show. Shot from a northeast angle on Commercial Avenue with the Sony a7RIV, this painterly rendering of the beloved 1891 Welcome Arch captures that rare moment when warm sunset light turns a familiar landmark into something that stops you cold.

This one belongs on a wall. Fine art prints are available through Rising Moon NW Photography — contact Ernie Hayden to order yours today.

There's something quietly powerful about standing under the Historic Downtown Anacortes arch — a wrought-iron gateway that has welcomed locals and visitors alike since 1891, now framed by one of those wide, golden Pacific Northwest skies that remind you exactly why people fall in love with this corner of Washington State. Whether you've driven past it a thousand times or you're seeing it for the first, it stops you. That's what great architecture does.

Want this piece of Anacortes history on your wall? Fine art prints are available at Rising Moon NW Photography — reach out or visit the link to order yours today.

The American Bald Eagles of March's Point, Anacortes, Washington. These eagle pairs were observed yesterday during one of our frequent bird watching tours near our home. The larger of the pair is the female. Their postures and poses are actually quite interesting and sometimes even humorous.

Please enjoy seeing these photos. You can see more at my webpage https://risingmoonnw.com

Edison Slough Work Boats

One of my favorite photos. Commercial workboats rest quietly along the still waters of Edison Slough in Edison, Washington, their colorful hulls and gear reflected in the mirrorlike surface on a clear winter day. This scene, captured on December 30, 2015, frames the boats against waterfront homes and evergreens with the foothills rising softly in the distance.

Guemes Channel Pilings Serenity

Weathered pilings rise from the calm waters of Guemes Channel, captured in a silky long exposure from the end of M Street in Anacortes, Washington. The 30 second exposure at f/20, ISO 100, with a 10 stop ND filter smooths the channel into glass while distant forested hills and layered clouds add depth and drama to this peaceful Pacific Northwest shoreline scene.

Morning Light at the Piano

A young church pianist sits at the grand piano in the soft glow of the 9 AM sun, her back gently rim‑lit as warm light spills across the keys and her floral skirt. The quiet sanctuary, with its wooden paneling and oil cruets on the wall, gives the scene a contemplative, Old World atmosphere reminiscent of a Vermeer or Dutch Master painting.
