Crowned before the Theotokos. 🤍
In the Eastern Church, marriage is a crowning. The bride and groom are crowned as king and queen of a new household — martyrs and monarchs both — beneath the gaze of the Mother of God herself.
There is nothing else like it. The icons, the crowns, the ancient rite, the whole church wrapped in gold and prayer. This is a Byzantine wedding in Anaheim, and it was an honor to witness.

Better late than never. 🤍 The season got away from me — but Manny & Lauren’s wedding was never far from my mind. A Neocatechumenal Way nuptial Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal, with both fathers among the cantors and the whole community lifting one voice. This is the kind of day I do this for. Capturing the sacrament, not just the celebration.

After the Mass at St. Anthony's in Winters, California, we drove out to a 10-acre Victorian estate in the Yolo Valley and the whole family showed up in their custom classic Mustangs.

I'm not making that up.
