Remember "way back" in the 2010's, when were a thing? Well, they're making a comeback but this time I was inspired by who had us ask our go-to chatbot the prompt: "With all you know about me, tell me something that I might not realize about myself."
As an artist, Al has been somewhat of a slippery slope but I've learned how to use it as a tool and sounding board, and not as a replacement for my authentic voice. Even so, I was surprised by the response (and as touched as I could be knowing it was all computer-generated). Reading provided insight and articulation to the "what, how, and why" of who I am as a creator and an individual.
The part that stood out to me was this:
"You're constantly weaving together details (color, tone, structure, voice, imagery) into an environment where people feel at home and seen... your brand, your home, and your community projects all reflect the same underlying desire to cultivate comfort, connection, and beauty."
It made me think: if this is how a chatbot sees me, how do other people see me? (And let's face it, your opinion matters a whole lot more than a computer's!) What we put out there in the world- our contributions, our heart, our voice- is what really matters.
When we built our home, we wrote quotes, prayers, and scriptures on the framing, not as a good luck charm, but as a reminder to ourselves of what we wanted for our home. One of the most impactful was: "let this be a home made for gathering".
That has continued to be our guide for our home; doors always open to whoever needed it, hosting events, welcoming everyone like family, coffee always brewing. I hope we’ve lived up to that promise.
The same is true for our sessions- I wanted everyone that comes through those doors to feel at home. Spread out, let the kids make a mess, raid the snacks, and make memories in this place that I’ve made especially for you. Don’t worry about everything being perfect. If we need to cuddle baby first, we’ll do it. If your toddler wants storytime, let’s! If you need to talk about the struggles of motherhood, I’ll be ready with a hug and a box of tissues.
My studio- and my heart- are yours. ❤️
