To say this was the best ice skating season ever would be an understatement.

From the feeling you get gliding across perfect black ice to the cool abstract ice discoveries you find along the way. I find myself spending almost as much time photographing the ice as skating on it. I’m unsure which I love more. Ice skating with Nordic blades give us ways to explore new areas not accessible in summer, or explore summer areas differently.

This particular day was a total of 17 miles at just below zero degrees Fahrenheit. A combination of river skating, hiking, and skating on perfect, 10-12 inch, bomber black lake ice. Anytime there’s more than one sport and a bit of adventure, I’m in!

The desert always draws me back. I'm not sure if it's the cacti, heat, cool rock formations, or if the reason is it's so drastically different than AK that I love it. On a recent trip to CA we were able to make a quick excursion out to Joshua Tree NP and see the Cholla Cactus Garden at sunset. It was magical :) Also, pro tip - watch were you walk 😂

Super excited to announce I got in to Alaska Positive and was selected for a Recognition award (one of three awards given, and goes into the Alaska State Museum's permanent collection!) For those not familiar, Alaska Positive is a juried photography exhibition that highlights the role of Alaskan photographers in today's visual culture. The show opens this Friday, Dec 5 from 4:30 - 7 pm at the Alaska State Museum in Juneau. The show runs through mid March 2026, then a statewide tour will follow. If you are in Juneau on Friday, go check it out! Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the opening (dang work getting in the way), but plan on going to see it in the statewide tour.
