Anchorage's Skyline & The Star On The Mountain ⭐️

The Star On The Mountain is illuminated September 11th every year for just the single day to honor the lives lost in 2001. The star's 350 bulbs will not be lit again until late November and will stay lit until the final musher finishes the Iditarod.

(If viewing on your cell phone, it is best to turn your phone sideways and click on the photo. The star is in the upper right hand corner.) 🇺🇸

Nature doesn’t get much more Alaskan than this: rushing water, moss-covered rocks, and a bear making the most of the salmon run.

Take a closer look at fish—see the large humpback? That distinctive hump is a classic feature of male pink salmon as they enter their spawning phase.

A wild moment I was lucky enough to photograph.

Bull moose “raking” his antlers in the weeds in an effort to remove the itchy velvet and to show dominance to his nearby rival. I thought I was going to see a moose fight but it’s still a bit early for the “rut”.

Common Loon with two new baby chicks.

There’s nothing ‘common’ in my opinion about these gorgeous birds. Their striking black and white patterning along with their red eye makes them a favorite, paired with a couple of fluffy chicks … pure sweetness. ❤️
