Great Egrets were hunted to near extinction in the late 1800’s due to their fancy breeding plumes, and it was their population decline that led to the creation of the Audubon Society. Thank you Audubon Society!

A female (light chin) and male (red chin) Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Sapsuckers are the only woodpeckers in eastern North America that are truly migratory. Hummingbirds use these same holes to also feed off the sap and have been known to time their spring migration with the arrival of sapsuckers.

They return to the same nest each year, though at Kensington they sometime switch between two platforms. Ospreys are known for dramatic “sky dancing” courtship displays and intense mating frequency (I can attest to this)! Bring on the babies!

Ring-necked ducks passing through Michigan likely on their way to Canada. They get their name from a hard to see ring on their neck but are easy to identify thanks to a ring on their bills!
