I’ve been meaning to tell this story for almost a year now and Derek’s ( ) recent mail drop of record and instrument-shaped cookies reminded me to finally share!
Last fall, I arrived to photograph the incredible wedding of and at The Michigan League. It was a Friday on the UM campus so things were abuzz and parking was quite jammed. I ended up parking about an eight minute walk from the League. No problem but I was antsy to get to the venue and get set up so I didn’t realize anything was amiss quite yet.
The entire lovely and epic day that Vivianne and Brandon had planned unfolded. Derek’s careful attention moved the crowd along swimmingly from ceremony to cocktail hour to their reception, where he had the brilliant idea to have their guests create a mob scene for their entrance. For most couples, this would be overkill. But Derek had taken the time to get to know them, their love of electronic dance music and raves, and decided to make their entrance as memorable as possible, gearing up the crowd who loved them so much to do the same. It was truly an epic evening of dancing, rave bracelets, foam glow sticks, and adoration amongst guests all shepherded by Derek’s concern that they have the best time of their lives.
