Digging into the archives for this one.
This is the historic 1918 water tower at Vandalia Tower in St. Paul—the old King Koil mattress factory. There is so much raw, industrial grit in those rusted steel legs, with the neighborhood's iconic crescent moon peeking out in the background.❤️

🏗️ Out with the old, in with the new for ! 💧
If you’ve driven along Highway 610 recently, you’ve definitely seen the massive new addition to the C**n Rapids skyline. Located just southeast of C**n Rapids Blvd and Foley Blvd, this impressive 1-million-gallon single-pedestal tower officially stepped up to replace the city's oldest active tank. Photos of that tank removal will be on Jon Pittman’s FB page today.
We tracked its progress from construction to the final, polished look, and the aerial views show just how much work goes into a massive infrastructure upgrade like this.
You can see a neat early look inside the massive, unpainted steel bowl while it was still under construction, complete with the American flag flying high over the center column.
It’s an incredible upgrade for the city's water system, doubling the storage capacity of the old retired tower and securing local water pressure for decades to come!
What do you think of the new look along 610? Drop your thoughts below! 👇

📸Local History on Display: The Metz Creamery Truck 🚛
If you drive along Lake George Boulevard Northwest in Oak Grove, Minnesota, you can't miss this iconic roadside landmark.
Right on the shoulder in northern Anoka County—just south of the Isanti County line—sits a weathered, vintage delivery van. It’s a beautifully preserved piece of the past, still wearing the original faded branding of Metz Creamery, a dairy producer originally based out of Isanti.
It is a true community fixture that hundreds of people pass by every single day.

There is something incredibly peaceful about watching Rice Creek meander through the trees in Shoreview and Mounds View. It’s fascinating to stand there and think about the generations of history that have unfolded along these very banks.
Definitely one of my favorite spots to capture this time of year.

Get ready for some great family fun for one of the most vibrant weekends of the summer! The Maple Grove Chalk Fest is returning to Main Street on June 13th and 14th, 2026, and it’s always such an incredible sight to see the pavement transformed into a massive, open-air gallery.
From breathtaking 3D illusions that look like they’re popping right off the ground to intricate murals created by talented artists from all over the world, there is so much to take in. It’s the perfect event to wander through, grab some local food, and enjoy the creative energy of the community.
Whether you’re there for the art, the music, or just to enjoy the atmosphere, it’s a must-see. See you on Main Street!

🏰MOST PEOPLE DRIVE RIGHT PAST THIS WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT IT IS.

Hidden in plain sight in Fergus Falls, Minnesota sits one of the most hauntingly beautiful — and forgotten — buildings in the entire state.
This is the Fergus Falls State Hospital. Built in 1890. Designed by one of Minnesota’s first formally trained architects. And it operated for over 100 years as a place where thousands of Minnesotans lived, struggled, and sought healing.
It’s called a Kirkbride — a now-rare style of architecture built on a radical idea for its time: that beautiful surroundings, fresh air, natural light, and open land could actually heal the human mind.
The building stretches nearly an entire city block. Underground tunnels connect the wings. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. And today? It sits largely empty.
It closed in 2005. The community has been fighting ever since to figure out what comes next. A reuse plan was finally approved in 2021.
This is the last fully intact Kirkbride in Minnesota. One of the last in the country.

Minnesota roadside history comes in many forms, and this one is definitely one for the books! 📍 We captured some aerial views of this gravity-defying collection along I-94 near Osakis. It’s hard to get a real sense of what you’re looking at from the driver's seat on the interstate. So we flew a camera up to see these old classics up close.

🚨 Water Tower Wednesday 🚨

Before modern steel water towers took over skylines everywhere, cities built structures like this — massive, detailed, and designed to actually look impressive.

The historic Kenwood Park Water Tower was built in 1910 and still stands as one of Minneapolis’ most recognizable hidden landmarks. Rising roughly 110 feet tall, the octagonal brick design looks more like a medieval fortress or castle tower than part of a city water system.

Designed by city engineer Frederick William Cappelen, the tower was built during an era when public infrastructure was meant to make a statement. Thick brickwork, stone accents, and architectural detail were considered just as important as function.

More than a century later, it still stands as a reminder that even something as simple as a water tower used to be treated like a work of art.

Standing tall and proud in Mora, the world’s most iconic giant Dala Horse is a true testament to the Swedish heritage that runs deep through the local culture. 🇸🇪✨
Whether you’re a history buff, a lover of unique landmarks, or just hunting for that perfect, eye-catching photo, this is the ultimate pit stop. It’s more than just a roadside attraction; it’s a piece of art that brings a touch of Dalarna, Sweden, right to the heart of the North Star State.
