🚨 A CHANGE I’M MAKING MOVING FORWARD. 🤍
I’ve been following the recent conversations surrounding AI, children’s images, and the ways innocent photographs can be misused.
And I keep coming back to one thought:
If the systems that are supposed to protect children continue to fall short, that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to sit back and do nothing.
As a photographer, I have access to something incredibly personal: photographs of people’s whole worlds. Their babies.
Those photographs are taken with love. They’re meant to document childhood, family, milestones, personalities and the little moments parents never want to forget.
They were never meant to become something harmful.
So I’m making a change in how I handle the images I share publicly.
From this point forward, children featured in photographs that I have permission to share on my business pages will either have their faces obscured or will be photographed in a way that doesn’t show their face.
And honestly? I already have many families who choose to keep their entire gallery private, and I completely respect that. If I could have my own kids I’d like to think I’d choose the same.
A media release means I have permission to share an image. It doesn’t mean I have to.
I would rather take an extra step to protect a child than ever wonder if I could have done more.
Because unfortunately, there are people in this world who look at innocent images differently than we do. Sick individuals. Monsters. And watching what is happening with technology, AI, and our justice system has made me realize that I cannot control what happens after an image leaves my page. Or who’s watching. BUT I can control what I choose to put out there in the first place.
If protecting even one child means changing the way I market my business, then that is a very EASY decision for me.
❤️ Your family will still receive your full, beautiful, unblurred images privately. Nothing about the memories I create for you changes. You can make the decision to share on your personal pages but I will fully keep my business page censored when it comes to minors who CANNOT consent on their own.
And if you’re ever curious about my editing, posing, lighting or what a full gallery looks like, come visit me at my soon to be announced studio. I’m happy to show you my portfolio in person.
I don’t want fear to take away from the joy of photographing those precious moments, you’ll still be able to see glimpse of the magic I get to capture but at a more safe perspective.
I just want to be a little more intentional about where those photographs live. Being a business owner who has personally experienced the monsters this world has surrounding.. I am taking this more serious than some may feel is necessary.
Our justice system may not always get it right. Technology may continue to move faster than the protections surrounding it.
But I can choose what I do.
And I’ll always choose to do whatever I can to help protect the kids in our community. 🤍📸
Their childhood is theirs. Their memories belong to their families. And their safety will always matter more to me than having another photograph on my business page.
