💰 How much does it actually cost to own a Pomsky?
We’re not talking about the cost to purchase a Pomsky—we’re talking about the expenses that come AFTER you bring your puppy home.
The first year is typically the most expensive. Puppies need several rounds of vaccines, spay/neuter, and potentially training classes. You’ll also have the initial cost of puppy-proofing your home and stocking up on all those puppy necessities: crate, bed, toys, treats, food and bowls, collars, leashes, harness, grooming supplies, cleaning supplies and more!
After the first year, routine expenses generally become much more predictable. Most Pomskies will need an annual exam and recommended vaccines, grooming (we recommend about once per season), and ongoing expenses for food, treats, chews and enrichment.
For a 15-30lb dog, a reasonable budget for food alone is around $40–$60/month depending on the brand and type of food you choose. Pet insurance is another option, and premiums vary widely, but the current U.S. average for accident-and-illness coverage is around $62/month for dogs.
And don’t forget those less predictable expenses…emergency vet care, medications, boarding, replacement toys, dental care and all the other little things that come with being a dog owner!
The good news? Pomskies are generally healthy dogs, which can help keep routine veterinary costs relatively low. They also don’t require professional grooming every 4–6 weeks like many doodles and other high-maintenance coated breeds.
