Thousands of photos. You practically need that max storage space iPhone. Every cute yawns, the sleepy baby contact naps, his first bath at home. You capture it all!

But every family deserves a handful of images that feel different.

The ones that make it onto your walls.
The ones your children will see years from now.

It’s funny, the things parents apologize for during sessions are usually the things that make the photos feel the most real later.

Some of my favorite sessions are the ones where:

• the toddler brings the giant shark toy
• the little boy insists on holding the monster truck the whole time
• everyone’s snacking between photos
• we take 500 water breaks
• sandy feet and messy hair are just part of it
• the kids spend half the session collecting shells instead of looking at me

And those are usually the sessions families love most in the end.

Because years from now, that monster truck won’t feel annoying. It’ll feel nostalgic.
That little shark was part of who they were.
The shell collecting, the snack breaks, the running around barefoot instead of perfectly posing… that is the story of your family right now.

Not every milestone has to be a whole production.

You don’t have to plan a big party or do a cake smash or make it look like something you saw on Pinterest unless you actually want to.

It can be simple.
Your family showing up in the comfy clothes you reach for day to day.
Your baby doing their thing, however that looks right now.
Everyone just being together without overthinking it.

That still counts. It actually matters more.

The goal isn’t to do it “right”
it’s just to remember what this season looked like for you.

Not when everything is organized.

It starts with a little bit of chaos…
someone needs a snack,
someone doesn’t want to sit still,
and you’re wondering if anything will turn out.

I gently reassure you, this is completely normal.
I can see your shoulders drop as the pressure fades.

We let the kids run around a little,
and I put dad to work
lifting them in the air,
giving piggyback rides,
pulling out those real, belly laughs.

And then
beauty, in the middle of it all.

You know how quickly the newborn days pass.
You know how much your heart can hold, although it’s surprising how instantly it doubles.

A whole new love unfolding in the place you call home.

In-home newborn sessions for second babies are slower, softer, and beautifully real. Your toddler climbing onto the bed. Snuggles on the couch. Life as it actually is.

Can I tell you something?
Six month sessions are wildly underrated.

Everyone knows to book maternity. Everyone knows to book newborn. And of course we celebrate the first birthday. Hello Cake!!

But six months? That one gets skipped all the time.
And it’s such a sweet stage.

They’re happy, interactive, & usually sitting or close to it. They recognize you & respond to you. They have opinions now (the cute kind). And we’re not chasing them around yet.
It’s truly the calm before the crawling.

That’s exactly why I include a six month session inside my Motherhood Membership along with maternity, newborn, and one year.

Because your baby doesn’t just change once in that first year… they change constantly. And six months feels completely different than newborn. Different expressions, connection, & energy. It deserves its own session.

If you’re expecting or in that newborn haze right now, this is your reminder to think beyond just the first few weeks when booking your newborn photographer. The in-between stages matter just as much 🤍

I get to photograph newborns often.
And every time, I’m reminded how raw and tender those first days are. You’re recovering. You’re adjusting. You’re staring at this tiny human thinking, How are you already mine?

Newborn sessions are special because everything is brand new and maybe the most surprising part is that you are too.

Those early days are sweet. But it doesn’t stop being meaningful after the newborn stage.

Six months, when they’re sitting up and studying you.
One year, when they’re suddenly sturdy and opinionated.
Four years, when they won’t stop talking and still launch themselves into your lap.

Every season feels ordinary while you’re in it. That’s what makes it easy to skip documenting it.

You don’t need a brand new baby to justify photos. You just need a life that’s changing and as moms, we’re painfully aware that it always is.

If you’ve been thinking, “Maybe we should update photos…” this is me saying yes. Let’s do it.
