A simple reminder, especially as we head into busy season.

For mini sessions, your remaining balance is due two weeks before your session (and subject to late fees or cancellation if not paid on time).

For standard sessions, payment is due at the time of your session.

Moving forward, sessions will not be added to my editing queue until payment has been received in full.

As much as I hate having to say it, I simply won’t have the extra time during busy season to send Venmo requests, texts, and multiple reminders for unpaid balances.

And more importantly, I don’t think it’s fair to the clients who pay promptly for an unpaid session to be edited and delivered alongside theirs.

I know life gets busy. I know things get forgotten. I’m a mom of two running a business, so believe me when I say I GET IT. 😅

But part of respecting my time and the work that goes into your session is making sure payment is taken care of when it’s due.

I truly don’t enjoy making posts like this, but unpaid balances are becoming a more frequent issue, and with the busiest months of the year ahead, I need to be consistent about this boundary.

So just a little reminder as we head into the fall + Christmas craziness…no payment means your session does not enter the editing queue until payment is made.

Thank you SO much to the overwhelming majority of you who always take care of your balances promptly. I appreciate you more than you know! 🫶🏼

“There’s a reason they tell you to put on your oxygen mask first on an airplane.”

Something a friend said to me recently, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

When those masks drop, the instructions aren’t to make sure everybody else is okay first.

No one says help everyone around you and then, if there’s enough oxygen left, take care of yourself.

It’s PUT YOUR OWN MASK ON FIRST.

Not because you matter more than everyone else, but because you can’t help anyone if you can’t breathe.

And whew.

How many of us, especially women AND especially moms, are walking around taking care of everybody else while we’re gasping for air?

The kids are okay.
Our spouse is happy.
The appointments are made.
The work gets done.
The texts get answered.
The plans get made.
The birthdays get remembered.
Everybody feels loved.
Everybody has what they need.

And somewhere along the way, we start treating our own needs like they’re optional.

Rest can wait.
The appointment can wait.
The boundary can wait.
The thing we enjoy can wait.

WE can wait, because somebody else needs us.

But maybe taking care of yourself isn’t the opposite of taking care of the people you love.

Maybe it’s part of it.

Maybe putting your oxygen mask on first looks like saying no.

Asking for help.

Protecting the empty space on your calendar.

Making the appointment you’ve been putting off.

Stepping back from something that constantly drains you.

Going to bed instead of doing one more thing.

Letting someone be disappointed because you simply don’t have the capacity this time.

Doing something that makes you feel like YOU again.

Not mama, wife, daughter, friend, employee, business owner, or caretaker.

Just YOU!

Because there will always be another task. Another obligation. Another person who needs something.

And I still want to show up for the people I love. I want to be generous, dependable, and present.

But I’m realizing I can’t keep showing up well for everyone else while quietly disappearing from my own life.

You don’t have to suffocate to prove you love someone.

Put your oxygen mask on first, THEN help the people you love with theirs.

Wanna know my favorite thing about this year?

The self-reflection.
The self-awareness.
The growth that has come from discovering who I am.

And learning to love that girl.

Not some future, more healed, less complicated version of me.

Me. Right now.

And whew, it has not been easy.

Because I really want to know who I am without the influence of everyone else.

What do I believe?
What matters to me?
What kind of wife, mom, friend, and person do I want to be?
What do I want my kids to learn from watching me?

What parts of myself need some work, and what parts have I spent too long trying to change simply because they made someone else uncomfortable?

I want to learn how to soften my response without silencing myself.

How to pause before I react without ignoring what I feel.

How to be honest without being harsh.

How to set boundaries without building walls.

How to apologize when I need to, without apologizing simply because someone doesn’t like my decision.

And maybe most importantly, how to give people grace without abandoning myself in the process.

Because self-awareness will humble you real quick.

Sometimes growth is realizing, “Yep. I was wrong. I need to work on that.”

And sometimes it’s realizing, “Actually, there’s nothing wrong with this part of me. I just need to learn how to carry it well.”

I don’t want to become less sensitive. I want to learn what deserves my emotional energy.

I don’t want to stop caring deeply. I want to stop allowing everything to affect me deeply.

I don’t want to become quieter to make myself easier for other people to handle. I want to learn when to speak, how to speak, and when something simply doesn’t require my response.

I don’t want to become a different person.

I want to become a healthier version of the person I already am.

And maybe growth isn’t just finding all the things I need to fix.

Maybe it’s also discovering the things I really like about myself.

Protecting them.
Refining them.
Honoring them.

And maybe finally learning to love the girl I’ve been trying to improve for so long. 🫶🏼

It has been over TWO YEARS since I’ve had a full night’s sleep.

You know the uninterrupted, go-to-sleep-and-don’t-open-your-eyes-until-morning kind of sleep.

I remember telling several people during my pregnancy with Clady, “I’ll sleep better after this baby is here.”

Because that was the case with Isaiah. She came home an amazing sleeper.

Clady apparently heard me say that from the womb and took it personally.

Fast forward two years, and he’s still holding a grudge.

Last night, BOTH kids stayed with my parents since I had an appt this morning. And Ben was out of town. Which meant I had the entire house to myself.

And I was like, THIS IS IT!

I had talked about the amazing sleep I was going to get for a solid week.

I even took a Benadryl to make absolutely certain nothing stood between me and my first full night of uninterrupted sleep in over two years.

And then a storm woke me up. I finally fell back asleep just for the power to go out.

No fan and no air conditioning.

And I cannot sleep in a hot house or without the sound of a fan.

So at this point, I’ve come to the only logical conclusion: the universe is simply scared of what I’m capable of if I ever get eight uninterrupted hours of sleep.

And honestly, it probably should be.

Can we normalize posting a single picture again?

I’m not saying all the time.

And I’m not really asking permission, except maybe from the algorithm.

But I’ll be honest.

Having to choose 10+ images for a carousel or make a collage AND come up with a caption is probably 90% of what holds me back from consistently posting.

Because somehow “I should post this picture” turns into an entire project.

And then I don’t post anything at all.

So if trying to do social media the “right” way is the reason I’m not showing up consistently, I say we go against what social media says is normal.

Post the one picture.
Write the caption.
Move on with your life.

Because sometimes being actively present is more important than doing it perfectly.

It’s been an emotional week for the Jones household.

My sweet girl started preschool. ✏️
My wild boy was hospitalized. 🏥
And my mama heart was torn. 💔

Just like when brother was in the NICU and sister had her first dance recital, we prioritized. We trusted our village to love our babies when we couldn’t be in two places at once when it was most important for us to be there together for one child or the other. And we divided and conquered the rest of the time so each child had one parent or the other.

And that’s not always easy.

There’s a weird part of motherhood where sometimes two of your babies need you at the exact same time in completely different ways and you have to decide where you’re needed most while trusting someone else to fill in the gaps.

And lucky for me, I have a husband who can be there to fill in the gap and knows how to help me decide where I should be when it’s hard for me to choose.

And I’m so thankful my family is back under one roof.

I have somewhere around 70 unread texts, emails and messages waiting on me.

There’s probably laundry that needs washing. There’s definitely work that needs doing. And the calendar that didn’t stop just because life did.

And my mental capacity is somewhere in the negatives.

I say all that to say, if you’re waiting on a response from me, I promise I’m getting to you. I’m just giving myself time when needed to come down from a week of running on adrenaline and being pulled in a million directions.

Tonight, I’m going to hug my babies a little tighter and be really, really thankful for home. 🏠

Everything else can wait just a little bit longer.

We spend so much time waiting for the next milestone.

The next birthday.

I’m guilty of it myself.

But childhood isn’t just the big moments.

It quietly slips by in tea parties, silly but BIG imaginations, and tiny hands wrapped around tiny teacups.

May and June were a whirlwind, both personally and in business.

Vacations. Birthdays. Graduations. Dance recitals. Health concerns. Surgeries. Follow ups. Work events. Summer sessions. Summer camps and VBS.

It felt like life was coming from every direction. And if I’m honest, there were days I felt like I was drowning in both the fun and the heavy.

But we made it. We survived.

Because life demanded so much of me, my business took a bit of a back seat in some ways, especially when it came to consistently showing up on social media and responding to fall inquiries.

I’m learning that sometimes you have to give yourself grace and focus on what’s right in front of you.

Somehow it’s already (mid-ish) July, and that means one of my favorite seasons is almost here! 🍂

My fall calendar will be releasing soon! I THINK I’ve followed up with everyone who has inquired, but if you reached out and haven’t heard back, or if you want to guarantee your spot before the calendar officially opens, now is the time! 🗓️
