A birth story that I will not soon be forgetting:

Riley persevered through weeks of prodromal labor before delivering spontaneously and unmedicated the night before a scheduled induction. After 3 babies with epidurals, a very brave decision was made to send the anesthesiologist home and to labor naturally in the arms of their partner. A vibrant 8lb 4oz baby girl opened her eyes the moment she met the light of the world, caught by Papa.

There were so many reasons that this one was so close to my heart, but particularly because these two are my family by choice. The inner circle. I grew up with them, especially Nick. Teen parents turned professional managers of chaos, their final addition was the miracle that completed this beautiful family. You can see the level of commitment and love between these two in every single picture- unshaken, and unwavering. I'm 6 years their senior and I still hope to grow into their wisdom.

Third trimester mamas, let me put you on to the solution for those of you like me who can’t deal with the compression of most belly bands.

K-Tape just gave me the first painless night of sleep since the late second trimester since my girl has been hanging out so low for this pregnancy! I was able to roll like a rotisserie chicken AND get out of bed without any strains or pains, which gave me more productive sleep as well!

Pros:
-Adjustable for personal anatomy
-Breathable and waterproof/resistant (brand specific)
-Controlled tension where you need it
-A nice lift to relieve your bladder and pelvis
-Wonderful for postpartum Diastasis Recti
-Less compression = less hot throat lava
-Great in tandem with chiropractic and PT care
-Safe for your babies, but always check with your provider about any questions or concerns!

Cons:
-Adhesive is strong and can cause skin irritation with overuse, sensitive skin or when removed poorly

There is still a lot of skepticism around the quality of care that is accessible within birth centers, as Texas is still a very medically dominated state regarding perinatal care.

With the obvious exception of emergency medical care requiring surgical intervention or inpatient transfer, midwives all over stay equipped with the necessities to navigate many situations that can arise in birth.

Out of sight and out of mind, medical supplies are readily available to treat most scenarios, including controlling bleeding and providing sutures for any perineal damage with numbing agents available. Additionally, you are free to move, eat and drink according to your individual needs.

I am so beyond impressed by the level of care that comes from the Midwives at .dfw

Between the gentle touch, the soothing & encouraging words, and the compassionate, thorough bedside manner, there wasn't a single moment that this little family was in question of the care they were receiving.

No medical gaslighting, no pressure, full autonomy.
