Sara Liz Photography Sara Liz Photography I specialize in child and family portraiture.

My goal is not just to capture how you look, but who you are with my emphasis on relationships and personality. As a parent I realize how fleeting moments with your children can be and would love to help you create memories that you will treasure long after they are grown.

Got a teen (or you) that is a little unsure about the idea of documenting their room in photos?

I get it! But these are NOT your Senior pictures. It’s a whole other thing, with a whole other purpose. Read what I’m sending to participants to get a better idea!

It’s been awhile since I’ve offered any in-home documentary sessions, I’ve got big kids now and trying to find ways to genuinely capture who they are at this moment without all the teenage social media pressure is hard.

When I look back after they have left my house I’m not gonna care about the perfectly posed friend photos on their Instagram. I’m going to want to look back and see the kid I knew at home. The one who had a messy room and wore pajamas all day. The one who didn’t return plates to the kitchen and still slept with their stuffed bear at 17. For many this will be the last time this room is “their room”- even if it stays the same when you go to college-it has been changed.

That’s what these mini sessions are for. They are for 10 years down the road, when their room becomes your office, or when you sell the house to move closer to grandkids. They are tiny time capsules.

I’m offering 30 minute sessions of your graduating Senior in their room. No structure, no “bed parties” (it’s a thing- Google), no social media perfection. Just your Senior, in their space, at home, being the kid you know one more time.

Last summer I was approached about having some of my work, particularly some projects I’d done documenting homelessness and families living in shelters, published as part of an anthology celebrating humanitarian photography. I’m always happy to share this work as it is something I’m very passionate about. Even better, the proceeds would benefit, Delivering Good, a nonprofit that provides goods and services to people recovering from disasters. The topper for me however, was that I was being asked to participate alongside several really well known and talented photographers I look up to. To say it was an honor and I’m not sure how I got included is an understatement!

The book is now out and available for purchase and it’s gorgeous! Check out Delivering Hope here and support a great cause!

So honored and excited to be featured in the National Coalition for the Homeless new magazine! They have a whole section on art and advocacy and highlighted several of my images from Dallas encampments closures.

While it’s always cool to see my images in print like this, my hope is that they won’t be needed. May 2026 be a year of more humanity, more compassion, and more love.

On or near the winter solstice each year organizations serving the unhoused community across the country gather to hold a night of remembrance for those experiencing homelessness who have passed away in the last year. The choice of the winter solstice is intentional, it’s the longest night of the year. Long nights fill the lives of those without a home.

It’s easy to overlook these deaths. Most pass without any fanfare. Many have no one to grieve for them.

Except we should all mourn. We should mourn that in the richest country in the world this happens to thousands of our fellow Americans every year. Despite who we were in life, what choices we made, how much we had, who we knew, and where we lived we all deserve to pass into eternity in peace. We all deserve to be remembered.

Like the event I photographed for Partnership Home in Fort Worth, events in honor of Homeless Person’s Memorial Day honor and remember our neighbors who passed away while living on the streets. This event was a powerful reminder that everyone matters.

I met Keith when he was recommended for the photo project I’m working on for Presbyterian Night Shelter and True Worth Place.

The project’s aim is to highlight the fact that to be unhoused is not to be without purpose. People experiencing homelessness often find a sense of purpose in their communities, skill sets, faith, relationships, recovery, or contributions to others. Keith is a perfect example of that on many levels.

While living in the shelter Keith found that he enjoyed serving others, first in the kitchens, and then through ministry. Keith earns income by helping staff the shelters’ kitchen several days a week. On Sunday mornings he volunteers to lead a small worship service for anyone staying at the shelter or on the street nearby. Keith pours his whole heart into both these activities. He is happy to arrive early to set up chairs, pass out Bibles, mop floors, chop vegetables, pray with someone, deliver food to families down the road, or wash dishes. He doesn’t stop and he doesn’t complain.

At the time of these photos Keith had been living in the shelter for close to a year. He was hoping that housing would be available to him in the next few weeks. Even after leaving the shelter Keith plans to continue both his work in the kitchen and the worship services.

Just heard it’s “National Dog Day”. Yes, that’s a totally made up for social media holiday so obviously the only way to celebrate is to post some photos I’ve taken of dogs with their people. We love dogs! 🐶🐾🦴🐕❤️

From my partnership with Presbyterian Night Shelter…

For someone experiencing homelessness a dog can be a lot of things. It’s a bodyguard, an alarm system, a reason to get up in the morning, an antidepressant, a way to keep the loneliness at bay, a connection, and a purpose.

However, when you don’t have a safe place to leave your dog while you are away it can also be a hindrance to obtaining resources or participating in services. Would you leave your best friend alone in a hot tent, or tied up to a pole in the presence of strangers in order to complete forms or attend a class?

This is why it’s important that programs serving the unhoused, like those held at True Worth Place, have a plan to accommodate pets safely so that their owners have 1 less barrier to services.

In photo: An unhoused woman attends a church service at True Worth Place along with her dog. Dogs are allowed to accompany their owners receiving services at True Worth Place.

I am honored to partner with Presbyterian Night Shelter and True Worth Place to tell the stories of some of our unhoused neighbors through photos.

First is Carol.

In her early forties Carol was struggling with drug addiction, in an abusive relationship, and homeless. Despite wanting to get clean, she found it overwhelming without help to escape her abuser and find housing. She was living outdoors, unable to meet her basic needs, and fighting a deep depression. Her situation only grew worse when she contracted a flesh eating bacteria on her legs.

Without medical care she quickly became septic and was hospitalized. What followed was a cycle in which Carol would leave the hospital and return to the streets. She could not care for her wounds, the infection would worsen and she’d end up hospitalized again. It looked like the only option to save her life would be to amputate her legs.

However, Carol was eligible for housing assistance through programming at Presbyterian Night Shelter and a unit had just opened up. Carol was able to move in immediately. She credits this with changing everything.

Once housed Carol was able to get sober, escape her abuser, receive in home medical care through JPS Health Network and care for her wounds properly. She has now been housed for 3 years. Although her legs are still healing they have made tremendous progress.

Carol uses a wheelchair, a physical therapist visits multiple times a week to help with mobility. She receives regular visits from her doctor and wound care specialist. She orders all of her own medical supplies and changes her dressings several times a day. Her home is impeccably clean and hygienic. She is no longer in imminent danger of losing her legs. She pays her rent using what government assistance she receives. Since being housed she has reestablished a relationship with her adult son and other members of her extended family. She is thankful that she has a place where her loved ones can visit and has put in extra effort to ensure her home is comfortable and welcoming.

Carol credits God and seeking help with changing her situation. She says she does not plan to stay where she’s at but wants to use this as a stepping stone to meet other goals.
