I want to introduce you all to something I've been working on the last few months.
When Lance passed away, I knew I wanted to honor him in some way. He was an amazing boy and he truly is the love of my life...sorry Ed.
I also wanted it to be a space where other pet parents could go and share their grief and begin to normalize pet loss grief. We are a grief illiterate society and we do not like to talk about death. Trust me, before I started photographing senior and dying pets, it was incredibly awkward for me to talk about. Would I know what to say? What could I say? So, I often said nothing, which is the worst thing you can do when someone is experiencing grief in their life.
Pet loss grief is considered to be disenfranchised grief...a grief that is not validated by social norms. Pets are just pets, right? Why are you grieving over a dog? Pet guardians often mourn the loss of their pets more than they do other family members.
When we knew we were going to euthanize Lance, I started writing and recording my feelings. I've continue to do so here and there throughout the year. I'm ready to share those writings with you.
Letters to Lance is still in its infancy as I've been trying to figure out what I want the site to be...how to honor Lance's memory and help other pet guardians know their grief is normal and to help them find ways to work through their grief. It's one of the reasons why I have been working on my pet guardian end of life doula certificate and will continue with more education this year.

To say I was chuffed to have come to the studio for a session is an understatement. Ever since I was a kid back in the 80s and saw Ike the Lucky Dog in the Lucky Dog food commercials, I’ve been smitten with English Bulldogs.
Because it was warm out, to keep Dunkin safe and comfortable, we planned on a studio session. Dunkin enjoyed the attention that was lavished on him and feasted on plenty of treats. He was a fantastic supermodel!

Because a photography session is a new thing with your pet, I want to make sure your dog is comfortable and lots of treats will be involved. I want your pet to have a positive experience being a supermodel, so I give lots of treats, praise, and if your pet is ok with it, tons of pets.

Baxter recently stopped by the studio and charmed us with his playfulness.
A studio session is a perfect way to take photos of your pup in the summertime, or any time during the year.
Your dog will come to the studio and is given time to explore the space to become comfortable in the space. We take plenty of breaks and it’s ok for for pet to continue to explore during the session. We move at their speed.

Charlie’s humans weren’t the only ones dressed in wedding attire for the session, Charlie was spiffed out as well. He is quite the dapper older gentleman who easily stole our hearts. 💖💖💖💖💖

When Charlie’s family contacted me and asked me to photograph them with Charlie before their wedding, I quickly said yes!
I met Ashley and Mike last year when we had a Legacy session with their sweet Nina, who sadly passed away a few months ago.
We met at the same park for this session.
Charlie is a spoiled senior fellow who definitely made his opinions known, but he was so sweet to work with.
Fun fact: Charlie was the best man, officiant, maid of honor, ring bearer, flower girl, and all around good boy at his human’s wedding!

One reason I chose to hold Rosie’s session at One Loudoun was for the red barn at Central Park. It made for a perfect backdrop with Rosie’s coloring. Rosie has a regal stance and as you can tell, Rosie is very curious about the world around her.

Rosie had her session a couple of weeks ago on a beautiful summer evening, before the current heat started. We met at One Loudoun’s Central Park and found a couple of nice spots to take Rosie’s photos. She was the perfect model.

Animal Behavior Wellness Center is looking for dogs to enroll in a clinical trial investigating an oral behavioral support supplement in dogs with separation anxiety Please share!

This sweet senior is Leo! He’s an almost 16!!! year old Boykin Spaniel.
Leo is his dog mom’s ride or die. They’ve been together for almost eight years, after Leo entered his retirement years.
Leo has an incredible sense of smell and likes to retrieve balls. Leo was slowing down in life, but he recently got a new set of wheels and is back to acting like a pup again.

This little nugget of joy is Poptart!
She’s a senior marshmallow hippo who loves cuddles and being a couch potato.
She was adopted six years ago after her human fell in love after seeing her photo on Petfinder.
Poppy gets to live out her days being spoiled, hanging with her brother Doug, and going on long walks.

Every photographer will tell you they hope the weather gods are on their side when they have an outdoor session. Will it be too hot, cold, rainy?
Dixie’s session was originally scheduled the end of April, but due to life’s circumstances, we had to reschedule.
I believe it was worth the wait. The weather gods gave us an absolutely beautiful sky.

Is there anything cuter than a Basset Hound on the move?

Dixie may be a senior, but anything involving food or her people definitely puts the pep into her step. She is the combination of Droopy, Snoopy, and Eeyore all rolled into one special girl.
Dixie’s country home in Northern Virginia was the perfect spot for this sweet girl.

Thor is a senior lab with beautiful copper eyes and has spent life with his family since he was a puppy. He lives with a menagerie of animals and children. Thor has a special connection with his human dad and look for a future post that showcase’s that relationship.
Thor’s session took place this month at Franklin Regional Park. It’s a favorite of mine as it offers a lot of different backdrops throughout the year.
