This was my 4th time out to document the progression of this project in Cleveland County, NC. With engineering by River Mechanics, the project stabilizes critical Raw Water Intake infrastructure serving over 50,000 residents at the volatile confluence of K**b Creek and the First Broad River, ensuring uninterrupted raw water delivery and dramatically increasing efficiency at the treatment plant.

By capturing these complex structural elements, Asheville Droneworks provides key high-resolution documentation supporting various aspects of this regionally-significant infrastructure upgrade.

Switching things up from my usual aerial view! Saturday at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium for the Kids at Bays event was amazing. The park rangers, city administrators, and tireless volunteers who made this day happen were incredible. And, the public turnout was higher than ever! Every booth and experience was a masterclass in hands-on learning, from up-close wildlife encounters to interactive planting stations. Bays Mountain is a vibrant and inclusive retreat that might still be a bit under the radar for the Tri-Cities.

The crew at McDowell Trails Association came through again this weekend for the 5th year in a row of the Rock n’ Roller, a premier cycling tour throughout McDowell County. New this year, the event was hosted by Foothills Watershed in Old Fort, an incredible venue for the event!

Saturday communities from Hickory to Asheville celebrated as the 1st locomotive on the reconstructed tracks made its way through Western North Carolina. One of the most historic sections of this line is known as “the Old Fort loops,” an engineering feat connecting the town of Old Fort to the summit of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Ridgecrest. These photos are from downtown Old Fort, where the train made a ceremonious stop at the historic depot before beginning the journey up the mountain.

It’s been a year since I first posted about The Highland, a 484,000 SF multi-family development in Hendersonville.

When Asheville Droneworks joined the project in January 2025, the site was little more than mass grading and early foundation work. Today, the transformation is remarkable.

Through consistent monthly progress flights, we’ve created a clear visual record of the build from the ground up. What began as a relatively small investment in aerial documentation has delivered significant value, supporting planning and analysis, improving project monitoring, tracking milestones, and strengthening communication with partners and stakeholders.

The event schedule for AVLDroneWorks over the last few weeks has been dynamic! Among a traffic study in Chattanooga, a luxury apartment on the Tennessee River in Knoxville, an RV resort in Georgia… was one project that stood out in a big way, the Angels & Sparrows Thanksgiving 5k in Huntersville, NC. 🦃🏃‍♂️✨

These photos are just a tiny glimpse. But, they’re some of my favorite moments that captured the spirit of the day.

Mid-November magic! 🍁 Even this late in the season, Crooked Creek is still holding onto an incredible amount of vibrant fall color. Catch a glimpse of this Sunday morning's 8:30 aerial view.

This site is one piece of a massive effort to establish a freshwater wetland and stream mitigation bank in the Lower Catawba watershed. The project, which includes environment preservation, restoration and enhancement components, ultimately will improve water quality, protect endangered species and establish long-term environmental protections for the watershed.

I am thrilled to be able to support River Mechanics on this regionally significant environmental project.

The beloved Mauney House in Old Fort was sadly destroyed during Hurricane Helene. But there’s a bright new chapter for this special place. The land has been beautifully cleaned up, graded and transformed into a gorgeous green field with direct access to Mill Creek on both sides.

Now called Mauney Memorial Park, this space is part of the Mountain Gateway Museum and Heritage Center and sits right in the heart of the Town of Old Fort, surrounded by local restaurants, galleries, and shops.

I am so excited to be able to check in on the Riverside Park Expansion and the creation of Taylor's Wave as part of the larger Woodfin Greenway & Blueway Project every once in a while.

This project is creating a world-class recreational, in-stream whitewater feature called Taylor’s Wave. The engineered wave feature is made of concrete and boulders in the middle of the French Broad River. It is designed to be a premier spot for river surfing, freestyle kayaking, and potentially competitive events.

Taylor’s Wave is expected to be a regional recreational focal point, drawing surfing and paddling enthusiasts and spectators.

The project is also a vital link in connecting Woodfin to the Asheville area’s growing greenway system, providing safe paths for walking and biking along the French Broad River.
