My Papaw was dying of cancer, and his son — my Uncle Bob — was devastated. Papaw and Uncle Bob were best friends. They grew up “making music” together and loved watching the Grand Ole Opry. That’s where Uncle Bob, who was mentally handicapped, fell in love with Dolly. Instead of saying “cheese” before a photo, he’d say, “Cheese, two hot dogs, and Dolly Parton!” and just laugh.

Fast-forward to 2007, when Papaw’s illness had taken a turn, and Bob was struggling with the thought of losing him. A sweet friend of ours, knowing Dolly was coming to town for a meet-and-greet with the local 99.9 Kiss Country radio station, called in and got Bobby on the list.

When he walked up to her, he said, “Hello, Dolly, I’m Bobby Wright.” She smiled and replied, “Hello, Bobby, I’m Dolly Wrong,” and just laughed with him.

The way she treated everyone around her — especially those who the world sometimes overlooks — was precious. That’s how I’ll remember her.

And I just know Uncle Bobby was one of the first to greet her when she walked through those pearly gates today. 🥹

When we heard yesterday that a fire had destroyed this beautiful venue, we were shocked and heartbroken. Heartbroken for our friends at Old Edwards, for all the wedding vendors who will feel this loss firsthand, and for every couple who made such beautiful memories in this gorgeous space. We’re so thankful that no one was hurt, and we’re keeping everyone affected in our prayers.❤️‍🩹🥺
