M/V C.J. Queenan is a triple‑screw towboat built in 1968 by Nashville Bridge Co., stretching 150.3' x 36.8'. She’s powered today by Mitsubishi S16R diesels repowered in 2024 to 4,500 horsepower, pushing through Twin Disc Red 7.00:1 gearing — a modern heartbeat inside a classic riverboat frame.

Built during the late ’60s boom when Nashville Bridge Co. was turning out some of the most dependable steel on the inland waterways, Queenan comes from an era when towboats were over‑built on purpose — meant to run long miles, take hard work, and stay out on the river for decades. Many boats from that yard are still working today, and she’s one of the proud examples.

She’s logged countless miles up and down the system, carrying freight through floods, droughts, and every kind of river mood. Now under the Hines Furlong Line banner, she wears fresh paint and a new flag but carries the same work ethic she was launched with nearly sixty years ago. Seen here passing Russell, Kentucky, she’s a veteran of the water — steady, seasoned, and still earning her keep.

M/V Sally Whalen with Crounse Corp.
Built in 1979 by St. Louis Ship, the single‑screw M/V Sally Whalen stretches 102' x 26' and runs on GM‑16‑645E6 power delivering 1,800 hp through Falk Red 3.76:1 gears. She spent decades as CHRIS before Crounse Corp renamed her in 2021 — a change that gave her a name with soul. Sally Whalen isn’t just a towboat; she’s a tribute. She carries herself with the same strength, kindness, and all‑heart spirit as the woman she’s named after.

You never know who you might run into out there. Adkins catfishing was out there this morning trying his luck on the Ohio River near Catlettsburg. If you love catfishing or just enjoy river content in general give him a follow.
(yes he said I could take his picture)
