I haven't gotten back out to the mountains since this was taken, but been practicing shooting some deep space objects, that will be coming up

A secret and hidden waterfall near the Crystal ghost town. One that the general public can't access, but one if you decide to camp at the ghost town will have unfettered access to. Because this was taken in Autumn during a severe drought year the water is much lower than normal. I would love to see it in a normal year.

This year was definitely not the best of years for fall colors due to the severe drought with many trees turning brown or dull light green and falling off instead of the usual yellows and golds, yet there are always stands of healthy Aspens still giving off the golden Autumn show if you look for them.

I just totally love the dynamic range of these Sony Mirrorless cameras. Single shot with extremely bright sky and dark foreground. So much detail was able to be recovered with out the need of bracketing.

Back to the iconic Crystal Mill. An hour's worth exposure to create the star trails. The Milky Way is visible in the trails. The Crystal Mill is Colorado's 2nd most photographed location and is a famous place amongst tourists as well.

Last week I had the opportunity to go to the Crystal Mill, my first time there. It is Colorado's 2nd most photographed location. We camped at one of the camping areas in the ghost town so we had some exclusive access to the region and it didn't disappoint.

A photo from last week before my trip to the Crystal Mill. The Milky Way out by the Colorado/Utah state line. I am working on the images from the mill and the ghost town as we speak. Plus I have drone videos from the Devil's punchbowl. We hiked up to that spot, on what is one gnarly road.

From Saturday night, posting this as I wait for the veterinarian to get back from lunch.

Seriously Utah, is this the best you can do? . Actually this was found on a backroad in the desert west of Grand Junction. A road to literally nothingness. Perfect place for night photography.

Does this still count as a Colorado photo? I didn't cross the state line, so I'd say yes.

Two examples of the moon with the Samyang 500mm reflex lens on my Sony A7RII. I just got home and processed them really quickly in LR and PS.

This was more of a test of the mirrored reflex lens. Kind of a rarity to see these lenses un use, Most 500mm lenses are long, bulky and very heavy and $$$$$$$$. Mirrored/reflex lenses hold a huge advantage when it comes to cost, size and weight, the only disadvantages are a single aperture usually at F8, they are manual focus only and the images are not as razor sharp crisp as their multi thousand dollar cousins. As you can tell, they can still hold their own for the desired outcome.

The biggest obstacle I had was with the dense smoke from the Pine Gulch Fire about 40 miles away. The 139,000 acre fire has made our skies like a chocolate milky soup looking with ash everywhere. This evening was no different so the moon was sitting behind that nasty haze so I was severely limited in getting any sharp images of the moon, even with the billion dollar lenses.

I will be using this lens on my camera for deep space objects in conjunction with the star tracker, my main reason for getting it. The lens is essentially a reflex telescope turned into a lens.

My computer took a little doodie on me yesterday. A planned power outage while my computer on did something to either Windows 10 or perhaps even the hard drive itself. I have an item coming tomorrow to diagnose the hard drive and recover a few personal I files on the drive. Hopefully I don't need a new hard drive, of course they are fairly cheap these days, but who needs to spend on getting a new drive? Right?

Anyways, this was back to the time this summer, before the wildfires, and during the Comet. Above 12000 feet on a trail at US Basin near Silverton. I was just coming down from summiting my first mountain peak in a few years. Was happy to get back to doing that once more. I do have photos from the summit, once I get my computer up and running again, I can work on them and finally upload.

Heading back to Colorado tomorrow. Until then, here is one from 12000 feet in US Basin above Silverton.

Last nights photo of the taken from the North Fruita Desert outside of Grand Junction. This is as close to it as I could. Now over 85,000 acres.

Now heading out on a long trip to NY, no real plans on photos for this trip
