This drone shot inside theatre turned out almost EXACTLY the way it was storyboarded! I used the DJI Avata 360, which was a bit awkward to fly, but the digital field of view reframing was super helpful to show off the space.

Some of my favorite shots from Complexity: The Documentary (filmed by me! πŸ˜‚)

In the summer of 2024, I started working on a documentary. My incredibly talented friend had just spent 10 years writing an original musical based on the real-life stories of Travis Alexander and his murderer, Jodi Arias - a case that took the national stage in the early 2010s.

While I never got to finish the project before moving to Georgia, Kate and her incredible team not only put on the show, but finished editing the documentary AND are working on the Original Cast Recording!

I could not be more proud of her - ten years is a long time to pursue a dream. She stuck with it and has everything to show for it. I’m happy to have been even the smallest part of the journey!

I’ll throw the link to the full documentary in my bio if you want to watch - you can also find the full musical on YouTube as well (same channel as the doc)!

Almost forgot to post these πŸ˜… Shoutout to in Atlanta turning these around so quickly!

It’s been almost 2 months without my mom. There have been a lot of hard moments, and there will probably never stop being hard moments.

But the times I’m creating, especially with her camera, I feel at peace. I feel a sense of purpose and I feel like she’s with me.

That said, I have a long way to go to understand B&W film - this particular stock looks a lot grainier than I’d realized. But then again, that could be my settings! So if anyone has any insights or tips, let me know!

Hannah suggested we go and explore the Botanical Gardens today, and I’m glad she did. We found a bunch of pansies, which were my mom’s favorite flower 🌺 It’s been hard at moments, but I felt like she was with me today 😌

I also took some photos with my mom’s camera and the B&W film that I have in there, but we’ll have to wait to see those πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Here are the best shots from my first ever roll of film taken on my mom’s Nikon FE! πŸ“Έ

For the camera nerds out there:
50mm f1.8 prime lens
Kodak Gold 200 film

Nailing focus is a lot harder than I thought. A handful of photos were super soft or missed completely.

The photo of me was actually taken by my 12 year-old niece as I coached her how to do it! Probably one of my favorites from the whole roll! ❀️

Next up, I’ve got a roll of black & white film loaded and ready to experiment with. And some more color options after that! πŸ˜…

Apparently, I got πŸ“Έ from my mom.

As far back as I can remember, my mom had a Nikon FE 35mm film camera sitting on our family bookshelf. She was always interested in photography. If the camera wasn’t proof enough, the literal thousands of photos still lying around should be.

Over the last few weeks of looking through every single photo, I realized that mom had some skill behind the lens! I don’t know that she ever took a class (though she was a Communications major, so maybe she did), but her compositional choices were πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ³πŸ’‹

Here are some of my favorites - all taken with the Nikon 35mm, I believe (which still works, despite having last been serviced in 1985)!

Tucked away in a box under the photos, I found the camera. After a good cleaning, a brief visit to a camera shop, and two rolls of film later, I’m ready to give it a second life!

I’ll share the results of my first roll of film in the coming weeks. For now, I continue to celebrate and honor my mom’s life.

Thank you to everyone who’s reached out - DMs, texts, comments, etc. You don’t know how much it means. ❀️
