Mr. J came in a little skeptical. a little nervous. that’s normal — most people are. by the end of the session, that changed completely.

“I couldn’t stop laughing most of the time. she made me feel at ease. it felt like I was just hanging out with a friend.” he hasn’t even seen his photos yet. and he’s already sure —
“I know I look pretty good though.”

You get so used to being looked at a certain way, or not looked at at all, that when the marriage ends you don’t know what you’re working with anymore. You look in the mirror and you look tired, older, like a stranger. And the ugly little thought creeps in: maybe this is why he left.

Let me tell you what actually walks into my studio. A woman who finally, for the first time in years, gets to be seen on her own terms. Nobody to perform for. And when she sees her photos she stops mentioning him at all, because the woman in those pictures doesn’t look left behind. She looks free.

Follow me. I photograph women on the other side of divorce every week, and I want you to see how good the other side can look.

«at 40 i feel way sexier than i felt at 20. 25. hell, even 30. i feel the most sexy and the most confident i have ever felt. despite the perimenopausal hot flashes, i’m still sexy. just sexy with a little sweat.»

then she handed me her great aunt’s gospel: «baby, in your 40s everything gets better. you get better. the s*x gets better. and you just don’t give a f*ck about nobody else’s opinions.»

she walked out of my studio taller than she walked in. i watched it happen from the window.

glam is not “just makeup.”

it’s my team’s hands in your hair. brushes on your skin. someone kneeling to fix your strap while another one holds the mirror steady, waiting.

for those forty-five minutes, you are the only person who exists in this room. not your kids. not your inbox. not the version of you that’s always taking care of everyone else.

just you. being taken care of. for once. and then you look up. and you see her.

“ain’t i a bad b*tch?”
didn’t need to ask anyone. she already knew.

10:15 on a thursday morning.

she’s in the chair with her eyes closed. flat iron humming. in the next room, somebody’s hanging her outfits one by one, smoothing each piece. her drink is sweating on the table next to her and she hasn’t checked her phone once.

I haven’t taken a single photo.

but something already happened.

it happened when she walked in and three people turned toward *her*. it happened when the makeup artist tilted her chin up like she was handling something valuable. it happened somewhere in that first twenty minutes of nobody — not one soul — needing her to handle anything.

she runs a whole department. a whole household. a whole life.

today she runs nothing.

sit down. close your eyes. we’ve got it from here.

i don’t take pretty pictures.
i give women time that belongs entirely to them. no roles. no decisions. no taking care of anyone else.
just her. in a room full of light. with a woman who has been exactly where she is.

i’ve watched women cry when they see their photos. not because they look beautiful, but because they don’t recognize themselves. in a good way.

that’s what i do. that’s what this page is about.

and suddenly she’s in your ear.

you sure about that? in that body? at this age? spending that money? on yourself?

that’s your inner cop. and she has been running you for a long time.

she means well. she really does. she’s just been doing her job so long she forgot you hired her to protect you — not to keep you from living.

the women who book with me? they didn’t wait until she shut up.

she never shuts up.
