I’ll go first.

Early on, I completely overcomplicated a realtor headshot session. Too many poses. Too much direction. Not enough real connection. We had to reshoot.

Lesson learned.

I was SO excited for my first real client on a studio job.
A realtor. Simple headshot. Easy, right?
Wrong. I kept changing the background before I even posed her. The photos weren't bad. They just weren't what she needed.
My manager had to pull me aside and break the news himself. Rough day.
But it taught me the lesson that runs my whole business now. Connect with your client first. That rapport tells you what they actually need. Then learn to pose a real, everyday client, not a model or wanna be model.

Glasses ruining your shots? Stop fighting the flare.
Client puts on glasses, light hits just right, and now you've got two white blobs instead of eyes.
Fix one: drop the chin slightly. It angles the lenses away from your light and kills the glare.
Fix two: raise your light instead if the chin drop messes with the pose.
One of those always works. No gear needed.

Y'all, here's a quick tip for shooting clients who wear glasses.
Keep the glasses on. That's how people recognize them in real life, so that's how they should look in their headshots.
The challenge is lens flare from your lights hitting the glass.
Easy fix.
Ask your client to drop their chin just slightly. That small adjustment changes the angle of the glass and kills the flare almost instantly.
Now if your client has a fuller face, dropping the chin might bring out a double chin. In that case, raise your light instead. Moving the light up will do the same thing without the unflattering angle.
Two options. Same result. No excuses for glare ruining a great shot.
