“The Rhinestone Cowboy rides again. Saddle up!”
I photographed .vii.mcmxcii for his 33rd birthday.

I was inspired to capture him through the sunroof of his car with a highlight on his cowboy hat. The combination of the white hat and a spotlight created this glowing effect, almost like a gemstone shining.

Should I posted the behind the scenes video?

I’m so excited to be a part of this year’s cohort for the Black Q***r Creative Summit in Los Angeles, California! Attending conference will help me move my creative practice forward so that I can produce more amazing work and build relationships BUT I need your help to get there.

I tend to keep my personal struggles very close to my vest but this year has been a doozy! It’s seems like every turn has been marked with challenge after challenge and now this ray of light at the end of the tunnel could be fading away.

I’m asking for your support to help me make it to this conference. Visit LaRueC.com/donate (click the link in bio) to support my journey to the Summit!

Each donation comes with special incentives hand picked to show my gratitude for your support.

Thank you and I can’t wait to make you proud!

My parents have been together for 37 years. They’ve traveled the world, served this country, supported each other endlessly. You can feel the love beaming off of them. This is dedicated to them.

“Wrap me in your warm embrace” by LaRue Calliet, Jr
Model:

The concept of a guardian angel is seen in our daily lives. From simple acts such as stopping you from walking into oncoming traffic to the friend who warns you about a pattern they’ve noticed in your partner. The guardian angel is there to protect you. A lot of time we don’t realize that they more often times protect us from ourselves.

“Wrap me in your warm embrace” visualizes the guardian angel in a physical strength (slide 3) to relate to what most may see as a protector. The reality is the safety comes in the softness. The soft glow and quiet poses calm the viewer and with that calm a sense of safety is felt.

“In time out, you find harmony” by LaRue Calliet, Jr.
Model:

When I was a child, I was put in time out a lot. This punishment was the worst because I would miss out on conversations, games, and all the fun things going on. As life progressed, I would often give myself a “time out” when things got overwhelming or I became overstimulated. This time away from things gave me the opportunity to find balance and bring the stability that was shaken by life’s constant movement.

“In time out, you find harmony” positions the angel glowing in dark surroundings. The peace in the stillness is felt through a single figure marked with bright wings.

“To put on a show, you must perform” (2024)
Model:

My new series features my muses as angels, each portraying varying aspects of my personality as it has grown throughout my experiences.

Most of time, I recognize that many people can relate to them. For instance, when entering into new spaces we tend to put on a show to safeguard ourselves from being hurt or disappointed. We perform the task of showing up but we really leave ourselves behind and give others a false representation of who we are as an individual. Then we must work to unravel our identity from the grasps of the false image we put forth.

“To put on a show, we must perform” takes this idea and places my muse in melancholy, where he is delaying with the internal torture of forcing the outside world to see him as he really is, to bare his soul (image 2 symbolizes this through the vulnerability of bare skin).
