Enjoy the Silence

My goal for the day was to locate owls to photograph. Even if I don't spot owls on an outing, I know I can almost always find a blue heron or hawk at my local nature preserve or neighborhood park. After a few hours out in the heat, I packed up my gear and headed toward my car, calling it a day. Just before returning to my car, I noticed the sunlight's reflection in a small pond on my way out. "I love how the sunlight is hitting the water", I thought, seeing the reflection through a break in the trees. I took another step, found a clearing in the canopy, and spotted this gorgeous great egret basking in the sun. After a few photos, it was a treat to enjoy the silence and the unforgettable scene.

As a lens inherently has a specific depth of field, the only way to "cheat" that limitation is to stack multiple image files. This photo is a composite of 150 Nikon RAW files stacked using Helicon Focus. There is no post manipulation other than minor sharpening.

The creative process involves a custom made shooting box with a blacked out interior to avoid any image movement; ensures a black background to further enhance the depth.

Gear: Nikon Z9, Nikon Z105 Macro, Two Adaptalux White Arms w/ Diffuser1

Exposure: 1/15" @ f/5.6

Mountain park,Ga

Back in the 1970s the American Bald eagle was decimated in Georgia. With recent breeding efforts the populations have begun to rise with there now being 101 confirmed nesting sites in Georgia. This pair has been around a little while and this boy has a little spot he loves to sit on the water using it as a means of cooling off and preening. After observing for a little over an hour I captured his lift of his perch. I have many other photos from before this event. I decided to hike further down only to accidentally bump into the pair above my head. It was probably the most time spent and my closest encounters in Georgia.

Cocktail Hour

I took this image during cocktail hour at Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island. These tiny hors d?oeuvres immediately caught my attention. Each one felt like a miniature work of art. The careful placement of every ingredient and the warm evening light. They were so simple yet so intricate.
