DESERT OUTBREAK POSSIBLE tomorrow afternoon and evening across parts of Arizona into southern Utah!

A potent upper-level trough will punch east from off southern California with a warm sector energized by Pacific moisture off the Super El Nino. Short-range models show the potential for long-track supercells with tornado potential especially north of Phoenix.

This is a textbook fall tornado producer for the Desert Southwest. Storm chase mode will be activated after my speaking event today

Just sharing a short recap of chasing in Kansas for a rare October tornado (10/13/26) SW of Wichita, KS. The hybrid tornado touched down, with dirt making it to the cloud base multiple times. Ended up over the rainbow too….

Tracked a QLCS/Tail End Charlie weak hybrid tornado from just south of Cheney, KS to north of Viola, KS off to the southwest of Wichita. This had constant ground circulation for a half hour but only fully condensed with dirt to the cloud base once. At one point as many as 4 small microvorticies in a half mile’s ground cloud. Thankfully out in mostly harvested fields. Thanks Paige Hann WX for support from home base! US National Weather Service Wichita Kansas

I know many of the followers here are from the Midwest. But this tropical map is kinda busy, and will likely affect our weather soon. Tropical depression into Wyoming?

OK THIS IS NUTS! 😮🌀🌀🌀 The southern United States is being invaded by tropical cyclones, 3 of them, with a 4th already developing behind newly named Simon that will also take a similar track!

Wish I was down on the Gulf Coast to chase Hurricane Isaias as it comes into the Gulf coastline as a Category 2, as well as the tornado threat on the east side of the eye of the storm as it transitions to extra-tropical into Mississippi/Alabama. However, with the densely forested area and torrential rains - chasing is definitely tough down there. Storm surge up to 7 feet, along with rainfall of 6-10” in those same areas will certainly cause severe flooding issues, even farther inland.

While the coast is watching how TD-9 develops into Hurricane Isaias in the Gulf, Hurricane Rachel is forecasted to track into California, Arizona, & Utah. The remnants of Rachel are expected to meet up with a trough coming in from the Pacific. And may bring a lot of tropical moisture into a potential storm late next week. After the recent historic rainfall in Nebraska, we will have to keep an eye on this storm. Potential early season snowstorm from the Sierras to the Rockies.
