Today’s World Gorilla Day and of course had to do a post for it. The largest living primate in the world, gorillas have always been a fascinating animal to us as far as we can remember.
Their human like appearance and intelligence mixed with their size and strength inspired the frightening tales such as told in Paul Du Chaillu’s EXPLORATIONS & ADVENTURES IN EQUATORIAL AFRICA which in turn inspired Merian C. Cooper to create the ultimate movie gorilla & monster with KING KONG in 1933.
A huge portion of time saw them as ferocious monsters when in reality they’re rather peaceful, family oriented animals that can get aggressive when needed like any animal would be as examined by the late Leaky Angel, Dian Fossey.
Being obsessed with primates, especially apes since childhood, gorillas have always been a favorite of mine. Unfortunately where I grew up in Michigan, there were none but then going to Gladys Porter Zoo and Los Angeles Zoo, they would always be major stop every time I go. Be it in relaxed state of rest or young black backs showboating, they still never cease to amaze and captivate.
