Let me clear up the misperception I hear most often about Scarlet Lady, because it is quietly costing people the sailing they actually wanted.

People say she only sails out of Europe. Or that she is only ever in one particular part of the world.

Maybe. And sometimes. Her itinerary changes throughout the year.

She is not permanently parked in one region, which means if you looked once, saw where she was that season, and decided she was not for you, there is a good chance you dismissed her on outdated information.

There is a second thing happening here too, and it is worth naming.

As Virgin Voyages has got more and more popular, more people are boarding without really understanding what Virgin is. They get on the ship and start searching around for the buffet. They are expecting a Carnival cruise or a Royal Caribbean cruise, and this is not that.

That mismatch is where almost all the bad reviews come from. Not a bad ship. A ship that was never trying to be the thing they wanted.

So before you book, or before you write her off, check what she is actually doing that year and check what she actually is.

"What time should I book my dinners?" is the question I get more than almost any other, and everyone wants a one-line answer. Here's the honest version, plus the five tactics I actually use.

The official guidance first: most Red Room showtimes are 7:30, 8, and 10pm. So book your dinners around those. That's the straightforward answer, and it's the one Virgin started giving in the last year.

But here's the catch nobody mentions. Booking dinner at 7:30 so you can catch the 10pm show means you're missing everything else happening at 7:30, and there is a lot happening at 7:30. Trivia, casino events, the drag show. There is no single right time, there's only the right time for what you want to do.

Five tactics that actually move the needle:

* Tell your server your timeline. This is the biggest one. "We have about an hour, can you help us out?" or "We've got two hours, we'd love to course it." They will work with you. Sometimes I ask for all the menus up front and order everything at once, and I've done a genuinely great dinner in 40 minutes that way.
* Know which restaurants run long. Test Kitchen courses everyone together, so it moves at the room's pace. Gunbae waits to fill the shared table, then cooks in front of you. Neither is a complaint, it's just how they work. The Wake, Extra Virgin, and Pink Agave are more straightforward.
* Plan around your port times, not the clock. In Barbados I was back onboard at 7:45pm, so a 7pm dinner would have been a disaster. In Puerto Plata the all aboard was 4:30 and dinner doesn't even start until 5:45, so the whole evening was open. Your port times come with your booking. Use them.
* Think about how you'll actually feel that day. If I'm at the pool while the DJ is on from 1 to 4:30, I am not eating at 6. I need a shower and a nap. Sea day pool people should book late. Early risers should book their long Test Kitchen dinner on the sea day.
* Do not write off the galley. Diner and Dash runs a rotating dinner and some of them are fire. The old Razzle Dazzle secret menu butter chicken lives there now. There's a roast with truffle mashed potato I love. They announce it in the app and on the printed schedule.

How I personally do it: book at 45 days, put The Wake, Pink Agave, and Extra Virgin first because those are hardest to get, push them early in the sailing, and leave room at the end for walk-ins. Night one is either the solo sailor dinner at 6:45 or a long 7pm dinner after sail away, because everyone is tired from traveling anyway. Brunch always goes on a sea day, as late as I can get it.

And a confession: after Test Kitchen I'm starving again in five minutes. I regularly eat two dinners. I set an alarm on my watch for 1:30am to get to the pizza place before it closes at 2. That is not a joke and I'm not sorry.

Brunch at Rojo is not Spanish brunch, and knowing that before you sit down makes it a
better meal πŸ›³οΈ Here's how it actually works ⬇️

Rojo by Razzle Dazzle is exclusive to Brilliant Lady. Not Scarlet, not Valiant, not
Resilient. Only here.

But at brunch it runs the same standard brunch menu you'd get at Razzle Dazzle on any
ship, with a handful of Rojo specific items layered on top.

So order across both. Get your normal brunch thing, then add the Rojo items, because
those are the ones you can't get anywhere else in the fleet. The croquettes and the
patatas are the ones to add.

Worth knowing:

- Every lady ship is getting her own version now. Lucky Lotus on Scarlet, Rojo on
Brilliant, Ariya on Valiant after dry dock.
- On Brilliant I'd book Rojo first, ahead of Extra Virgin and The Wake.
- It's all included. No upcharge, no menu math.
- It's on deck 5 over by Sailor Services, which throws people off every single time.

5 things to know before you book the Virgin Voyages Lock It In rate πŸ›³οΈ

JC has a script he sends the second someone says the words "lock it in." Not because the rate is bad. Because the sailors who regret it are always the ones who did not know what they were agreeing to.

The price is genuinely great. This is what it costs you.

Two things that are not obvious:

- Lock It In is the base tier of three. Base, Essentials, Premium, new as of October 2025. What the higher tiers actually sell you is flexibility, so decide how much of that you need before you shop on price alone.
- Inside 45 days, every sailor is basically locked in anyway. So this rate matters most when you are booking far out, which is exactly when your plans are most likely to move.

For me it comes down to where you sleep. On the Brilliant Lady transatlantic I turned down an XL up front to stay central, and by day 7 of open water I was very glad I did.

Inside: the lottery you enter on your cabin, the dining window that lands you at 9:30pm, the one move you still have after you book, and who this rate is genuinely built for.

Swipe through for tips and save + share!!

Full walkthrough of Scarlet Lady in 2025, after her glow up. I hadn't been on her in a year and there's a lot that changed.

The single best navigation tip I can give you: go to MID. There are dead areas on this ship you can't walk through, but from the middle you can always find your way. Take the mid elevators or stairs, then go where you need to go.

Deck 7, where you'll spend the most time:

* The roundabout, Shore Things desk, the vinyl wall, and Draft House, which is the beer-forward bar most people walk right past.
* Lick Me Till Ice Cream with a rotating daily flavor, and the pizza place, open 2pm to 2am. I set an Apple Watch alarm before 2am because I lose track of time in the Manor. White truffle and egg is my pick, and you can customize.
* Grounds Club for premium coffee, roughly $4 to $6, payable with Bar Tab or Sailor Loot.
* Social Club: games, trivia, karaoke, hot dogs, wings, alcoholic floats, and the candy bar (Red Vines, I'm from California, this matters). Plus the arcade, which is FREE and open 24 hours. Miss Pac-Man and I have unfinished business.
* Loose Cannon, usually one of the quieter bars, with the octopus shots and shared punch bowls.
* The Dock House and the Dock. Grilled shrimp is my favorite thing there, and please note: portions are unlimited. People message me saying they left hungry, and I ask why they didn't order five more. They say they thought they could only have one. Just ask.
* Juice Sea, tucked between the Dock House and the Dock, and genuinely hard to find.
* Sip, my favorite bar, with High Tea on sea days. Around $19, or $35 with MoΓ«t, which is good value since MoΓ«t alone is $25.
* The Wake. Check in on 7, dine on 6. New on Scarlet: that dead corner where the seafood towers used to sit is now a proper w**e bar, and it's lovely.
* The Groupy karaoke rooms, free, sign up on the sheet inside.

Deck 6: the Red Room (enter on 6 for most shows), the casino with expanded slot machines, and the Manor through the casino, including the famous lit hallway. Tip most people miss: there's an UPSTAIRS Manor space, and it's great for club nights and comedy. On the Rocks at the bottom of the roundabout is whiskey-forward and where Scarlet Night kicks off at 9pm. Then High Street: Squid Ink tattoo parlour (yes, you can use Sailor Loot), B***y Free, MAC, Stubble and Groom, and Dry Dock for blowouts, which you should book in advance for Scarlet Night. Extra Virgin and Test Kitchen are on opposite sides and both only reachable through High Street.

Deck 5: Sailor Services, and Pink Agave is entered THROUGH Sailor Services, which throws everyone. Pink Agave After Dark runs about 9:30 to 11 with a DJ. The spa is here too. And Razzle Dazzle is now LUCKY LOTUS, Scarlet only, much more muted and elevated. Fun fact: it exists because the Asian Night Market at Sea during the Eat and Drink Festival was such a hit.

Two dining tips worth stealing: order half portions of pasta at Extra Virgin so you can try four instead of one. And book Test Kitchen early in your sailing AND again at the end, because they change the menu partway through.

The Scarlet changes overall: Lucky Lotus, more slot machines, the Den turned into crew-only space, the w**e bar at The Wake, an elevated Grounds Club 2 in the galley, and different art. Everything else is the same layout as the other lady ships. I walked this ship for the first time in a year and never once got lost.

I am on my 38th sailing with Virgin Voyages. It took me six of them to find the Sun Club.

Six. And it is not hidden. It is right there on deck 16.

Poke bowls, bao, a whole spread of really good stuff. There is seating up there, and there are a few select drinks too, and honestly it is one of my favourite places on the ship to eat now.

The one thing I would tell you: check the app for the opening hours. That is the piece that trips people up, because it is not open all day and if you wander up at the wrong time you will assume it is nothing.

And remember you can take food anywhere you want on this ship. So even if you do not want to sit up there, grab something and take it wherever you actually want to be.

The reason I am making a point of this one is that if it took me six sailings to notice, plenty of people are doing entire cruises without ever going up.
