Happy 5 years of marriage, ! (No we aren’t pregnant again... this is just the most recent photo I could find of the two of us because ). I’m more in love with you today than yesterday, and I’ll be more in love with you tomorrow still!

There are many, many reasons to celebrate THIS mother today! Rach, you show our baby girl immense love day in and day out! You show Liv strength when you feel utterly exhausted and weak. You show our daughter laughter through the silly games you play each day. And Rachael, you show Olivia a reliance on God in the way that you pray with and for her.

I remember telling you before Liv was born that I knew you’d be a great mother, and you have far surpassed even those expectations. Being a partner in parenthood with you has given me a front row seat to really gather a fuller picture of motherhood. Today is about celebrating YOU for the sacrifices that you’ve made and the beautiful baby girl that you’ve poured your heart into!

[February 2020] Rachael’s phone rings. It’s a random number, but Rachael always answers those. She never wants to ignore a call in case it ends up being one of her patients. That’s the type of person Rachael is. She’s selfless. She would certainly put herself at an inconvenience if it meant others would benefit. The lady on the phone is calling from Mothers’ Milk Bank - Austin to inform Rachael that she’s been approved as a donor of breast milk to support mothers and babies that are in need.

Breastfeeding isn’t something that came easy for our daughter, Olivia. She often refused to nurse and it caused a lot of stress and worry for Rachael. Questions were constantly circling... “Is she getting enough nutrition? Is she gaining enough weight? What will happen to milk supply if she isn’t nursing well?” Through lots of tears and even more persistence, Liv and Rachael finally got on the same page. We were blessed that Rachael was able to breastfeed Liv for 12 months and even have an excess supply of milk.

Mothers’ Milk Bank states that “Research shows preemies fed human milk avoid serious medical complications. One in eight babies are born premature, yet half of mothers of preemies aren’t able to provide their babies with breast milk.”

Proud doesn’t quite sum up how I feel about Rachael’s donation to Mothers’ Milk Bank. It’s amazing to see something that was such a struggle for so long turn into something so positive.

***At the end of the day, formula vs. breast milk doesn’t really matter; what matters most is that your baby is fed. Breast milk can provide a unique source of nutrition that can be especially beneficial for babies in need.***
