One of the first questions I ask every senior is, "How do you want your photos to feel?"

For this session, she wanted natural light, true-to-color edits, and a light, airy feel that would still look timeless years from now.

Notice something?

Even though we photographed in an open field at sunset, under Spanish-style architecture, and at a nearby creek, the gallery still feels cohesive.

That wasn't by accident.

When I'm planning a session, I'm not just choosing pretty locations. I'm looking for places that work with the same beautiful light, complement your outfits, and fit the overall vision we create together.

The result is a gallery with lots of variety, but one consistent story from beginning to end.

Let's Talk... February Through March in Texas for senior photos...

Will it be 45° or 85°? Honestly... it could be 45° that morning and 85° by that afternoon. 🤷‍♀️ That's just Texas.

The good news? No matter what Texas decides to do, February and March are some of my favorite months for senior portraits. From dreamy golden hour to the energy of downtown and even sessions on the baseball field, spring gives us so many beautiful options, all before the graduation rush begins.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing some of my favorite February and March senior sessions, along with tips for choosing the best season, location, and style for your own portraits. I hope you'll follow along!

Sometimes the most meaningful part of a senior session isn’t the location or the outfit.

It’s bringing something that matters.

For her, that was her dad’s truck. His pride and joy.

One of the things I love most during the planning process is helping my seniors think beyond just where we’re taking photos. Whether it’s a classic truck, a horse, a football field, a favorite downtown spot, or a place filled with memories, those personal touches make your session uniquely yours.

Years from now, she’ll remember more than just what she wore. She’ll remember this truck and the smile on her dad’s face knowing this became part of her senior portraits.

That’s what I want every senior to have.

Not just beautiful images, but photographs that tell their story.

One of my favorite parts of every senior session actually happens before we ever pick up a camera.

During our planning consultation, we talked through the vision she had for her senior portraits, the feeling she wanted, her wardrobe, and locations that matched her personality. By the time session day arrived, we weren't guessing. We had a plan, and it allowed us to simply enjoy the evening and create.

From grottos to wandering through wildflowers at sunset, every location brought something different and fit the vision we created together. She trusted me every step of the way, and those are always the sessions that turn into something special.

Senior portraits are about so much more than checking a box for the yearbook. They're about celebrating this incredible season of life and creating images that will still mean something decades from now.

Thank you for trusting me with such an important milestone. I absolutely loved spending the evening with you, and I can't wait to share the rest of your gallery. 🤍

Lesson 5... After photographing teams across Texas, I realized something...

The camera isn't what built my business.

Relationships did.

Over the years, I've photographed football, cheer, dance, media days, and seniors from programs across the state. People often ask how I landed those opportunities.

The answer isn't a secret camera setting.

It's how you treat people.

These five lessons have shaped every relationship I've built:

🤝 Serve before you sell.
🏈 Make every athlete feel seen.
📋 Make life easier for coaches.
📍 Respect the space. Earn the trust.
❤️ Lead with kindness.

I've learned that coaches remember photographers who solve problems instead of creating them. Parents remember how you made their child feel. Athletes remember when you noticed them, even if they weren't the star. And other photographers remember whether you treated them like competition... or colleagues.

One of my favorite moments is in the last slide.

Years ago, I donated one of my cameras to a local high school's photography program. One of the student photographers walked up to me on the sidelines and proudly told me he was still using it.

That moment meant more to me than any award, publication, or viral photo ever could.

Because that's the kind of legacy I want to leave.

If this series helps one photographer build stronger relationships and a better career, then it was worth creating.

LESSON 4: Preparation Wins Before the Ball is Ever Snapped

One of the questions I get asked most is…

“How are you always in the right place when the play happens?”

The answer isn’t luck.

Long before kickoff, I’ve already started photographing the game… just not with my camera.

I’m studying the matchup.

• Is this team built around the run or the pass?
• Who are the playmakers on offense?
• Which defender changes the game?
• Where are the biggest mismatches?
• What formations do they love in big moments?

The better I understand football, the better I can anticipate the story before it unfolds.

That’s the difference between reacting after the play… and already being there when it happens.

LESSON 3: Where I Found My “Why”

Mid County Madness

There was one game that forever changed the way I photograph football.

Not because of the final score.

Not because of the big plays.

But because it changed why I stood on the sideline.

If you’ve ever experienced Mid County Madness between Port Neches-Groves and Nederland, you know it’s more than a football game. It’s one of Texas high school football’s most iconic rivalries, where two communities come together carrying generations of tradition, pride, and history.

The story begins long before kickoff.

The parking lots fill with tailgates.

The bands warm up.

The cheerleaders and drill teams prepare.

Families reunite.

Former players return.

The anticipation builds with every passing minute.

And when the final whistle blows…

The story still isn’t over.

The celebration.

The heartbreak.

The Bum Phillips Trophy.

The hugs.

The tears.

The pride.

That night, I realized I wasn’t there to photograph football.

I was there to photograph people.

The emotion.

The traditions.

The community.

The memories.

Because years from now, people won’t just remember the score.

They’ll remember what it felt like to be there.

That’s the story I want to tell.
