Conceptualizing a story long before the day of the shoot is everything to me. The research, the inspiration, the layers I get to build before anyone steps in front of my camera, slr or dslr (truthfully, as someone who works with both, it’s all the same to me because what I care about is the artist behind the equipment/medium). I’ve always loved this part of the production because you can weave so much story into one frame.

Add a few sprinkles of drama and understanding your light and voilà: an image you actually linger on. Because it gets your brain moving, your thoughts going, and inspiration sparking. You know, the tried and true way of thinking and feeling.

Photography is art, not just a point, click, and burn. And my favorite way to make it is alongside a collaborative group of artists.

When I first started down the path of owning and operating my own business, I saw it as a way to express myself, do work I genuinely enjoyed, and help people tell the stories of the amazing things they create through photography.

Now, as I dive deeper into design and event production for TAYO NA 3, I realize it is still very much that, but it is also about service to the community. For me, it’s about the art you create to express yourself and how you help others express theirs.

When I think of TAYO NA, I think of a convergence of art and community connection. Without an incredible creative and collaborative team beside me, like ASIAN SEASON ATX and Lisa Crawford | Illustrator who have stuck with me through thick and thin, it would not have reached this level of success.

There has been an immense organizational effort behind the scenes, but it has snowballed into something even more meaningful and resonated with so many people. It has brought me closer to the Austin Filipino community and the local arts community at large, both of which have breathed so much life into this project. I even discovered another creative who graduated from the same school in the Philippines as me of all places. Hiii Rina Saporsantos !

I feel so much gratitude for being able to use photography as a way to give back to others and to share TAYO NA with the world in a way that makes us feel like we belong and reminds us to take pride in being the powerhouse Pinoys and Pinays that we are.

El Nido, Palawan. Day 1, still. I remember not getting much sleep, but the sun gave us enough to feel encouraging us to stay awake. When the boat started its smooth glide through the clearest water, the motion sent me to dreamland for a second or three. I remember waking up to an abundance of the freshest coconut water and it was such a treat to get this spoiled on tropical fruits.
