Are the DZO Arles Primes the best cinema lenses right now?? 🎥

We recently used these on a couple commercial projects, and four things stood out.

1    The image. Sharp and clean, with subtle edge softness and a 16 blade iris that gives the image some character.

2    The price. Around $11K for a six lens set, with full frame coverage and a proper cinema build.

3    T1.4 aperture. Great low light performance and shallow depth of field across the core set.

4    270° focus throw. Precise focus control with minimal breathing for smoother focus pulls.

For us, they hit a great middle ground between clean modern glass and lenses with a ton of character.

Save this for your next shoot 💪🎥

Every shoot requires a different lighting setup, but having a simple framework makes decisions much easier on set.

1. Start with the key.

Look at the existing light and ask: Where should the light logically be coming from? Motivate your key from that direction so it feels natural.

2. Control the shadows.

Use fill to soften contrast or negative fill to create more shape.

3. Create separation.

Add a hair or edge light when needed to separate your subject from the background.

4. Shape the background.
Use practicals or additional fixtures to create depth and visual interest.

Save this framework for your next shoot.

Huge shoutout to ButterCo and Mint Mobile for bringing us on to bring this to life. 🙌

What does a $75,000 commercial look like? 💡🎥

We recently produced a campaign for a supplement brand launching a new product.

This interview setup was one of the more technical parts of the shoot, so we thought it’d be worth breaking down.

There were a lot of moving pieces behind the scenes, but the final result came together cleanly.

We’ve learned a lot over the years through trial and error, and we’re happy to share more breakdowns like this!

If this was helpful, let us know!

Always push the creative limits 🎥🤖

We recently shot a spec project to test out this robot arm.

We went in honestly without much of a plan, just had a car, a model, and a box of donuts. 🤣
