I recently heard a few folks say that there's nowhere to rock climb here. I would disagree... You just have to know the spots. Some even have waterfalls! β›°πŸŒ΄πŸ˜ŽπŸ€™

One of my favorite plant genera is Acmispon.
Known as "American bird's-foot trefoils", "Deervetches" or "brooms", the genus (formerly contained in the genus Lotus) are super unique and beautiful- and I have grown quite fond of them!
The species featured here is the Channel Islands Silver Lotus (Acmispon argophyllus var. argenteus). It is commonly found throughout and on some of the other southern California Channel Islands.
In fact, A. argophyllus var. argenteus is considered a Channel Islands endemic species, which means that they only grow naturally on a handful of islands off the coast of Southern California and nowhere else on Earth! @ Catalina Island

Plant rant mode E N G A G E D:
Some of my favorite plant species are thistles in the genus Cirsium.
Cirsium species are in the Asteraceae family, and are closely related to other thistles such as Silybum marianum (Milk thistle) and Cynara cardunculus (Artichoke thistle).
Some Cirsium species are known as "Cobwebby thistles" because of the cobweb-like hair that grow on the flowering heads (look closely at the immature flower head in the picture above).
Pictured here is the non-native and invasive Bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare). This species is native to parts of Europe, Western Africa and Northern Africa, and is considered a noxious w**d in California and many other states.
However, the flowers are actually very beneficial to many native pollinators, providing a healthy and abundant nectar source for a few different species of butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. The leaves are also often eaten by species in the Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) family.
Cirsium is the best, I love em.

I met a super chill danger noodle today. He didn't even rattle at me! They often don't rattle, and sometimes they're super aggressive and will strike at you as soon as you get close. Gotta watch your step when hiking through their home! I wear snake gaiters when I'm out in their world, especially now that it's starting to get hot outside. Just remember that they're more scared of you then you are of them and that they are a valued member of their ecosystem.
