I tried AI culling and editing.
And, truthfully? I thought I might love it.
Anything that could potentially give me more time back while still delivering the same work to my couples sounded worth exploring. So I tried it. I trained it on my preferences, I adjusted things, I gave it the opportunity to learn the way I work.
But I kept finding myself going back.
Because it would cull photographs that I immediately saw something in.
Maybe the image wasn't technically perfect, but the expression was. Maybe there was movement or blur that was intentional. Maybe it was a tiny in between moment that helped tell the story. Maybe there were five similar frames, but I knew exactly why that one belonged in the gallery.
And editing felt much the same.
Instead of making my process better, I found myself checking its decisions, going back through photographs, re-culling, and making adjustments anyway.
Eventually I realized:
I don't actually want to remove myself from this part of the process.
Choosing your photographs is part of photographing your wedding.
Editing them is part of creating the finished work.
There is thought behind why an image stays. There is intention behind how I edit it. There are moments that might look insignificant to software but immediately mean something to me because I was there when they happened.
So I hand cull my galleries, I make the editing decisions, I decide what belongs in the story of your day.
And because I think transparency matters: yes, some of the tools inside Adobe Lightroom use AI technology. I may use those tools when they're helpful, just like I use autofocus in my camera or flash in a dark room. Using tools to assist, not to decide.
AI isn't choosing your photographs for me, it isn't deciding how your gallery should feel, and it isn't creating my work while I simply press "export."
The tools may change. The artist behind them doesn't.
Your wedding deserves my attention from the moment I pick up my camera to the moment I deliver your gallery.
And to me, taking the time to give it that attention is a no brainer. 🤍
