🤯 We never once heard “I’m bored”—and if you have kids, you know that’s basically a five-star review on its own.

✨ What we loved
🚣 The private dock came with kayaks and paddleboards, so the kids (and adults!) were occupied for hours before we’d even finished unpacking the car.
🎲 On-site games meant zero “but what do we do now?” moments between lake sessions.
🛋️ The massive living space gave everyone tons of space to spread out, from the kids to the teens to the adults.
🛏️ The bedrooms were gorgeous, and the beds were somehow better than ours at home, which our backs deeply appreciated after a full day on the lake.
🦶 Heated bathroom floors—a small detail, but one of those things you don’t realize you need until you have it.
🌅 The rooftop balcony was an unexpected bonus. Deciding which gorgeous deck to drink my coffee on was maybe my biggest worry.
🔥 Every evening ended the same perfect way: grilling dinner, making s’mores by the fire pit, and the adults relaxing in the hot tub while the kids lived their best lives.

🐴 We saw zero ponies from the Wildlife Loop, but our sunset cruise gave us the closest views we’ve ever had—including lots of adorable foals.
🌅 Sunset was the perfect time to watch the ponies come out to graze.

📖 Our captain knew every pony by name and even pointed out which ones were descendants of Misty of Chincoteague.

🤯 At just 7 feet wide, the Hollensbury Spite House is considered America’s skinniest historic house. Called a “spite house”, it was built in 1830 after the homeowner got sick of horse-drawn wagons scrpaing the side of his house, loiterers, and even a nearby tavern using the narrow alley beside his home. His solution? He built an entire house just to block the alley—and it’s still standing nearly 200 years later. There are still marks on the interior walls from the carriages!

We’ve camped more than 100 times, and LOVE the beautiful places you can only experience when camping. Camping at Assateague Island National Seashore is one of those bucket list trips everyone needs to do at least once. But after many rained out trips, mosquito invasions, and sweltering summer heat, we decided to make this year’s camping trip a little fancier. Sure we’ll always love tent camping, but sometimes it’s nice to have a kitchen, a bathroom, and a real bed waiting for you at the end of the day!

✨ Why Assateague National Seashore needs to be on your bucket list:
🌅 Sleeping steps from the ocean- go to sleep listening to the waves crash (book that oceanfront site if you can get one!)
🐴 Wild horses visited our site almost every day.
🥾 Lots of easy hikes and overlooks on the bayside (perfect for sunset)
🏖️ A quieter beach experience, fewer crowds and a relaxed vibe

✨ Tips for RV camping at Assateague:
🍳 Choose an RV with solar power or a generator- there are no electric hook ups there (we were able to use the stove and fridge!)
📅 Book your campsite early BUT check often for last minute openings (we were able to book last minute on a holiday weekend!).
🐴 Give the wild horses plenty of space. Having an RV was a great way to keep our food stored away from the horses.
🚐 Choose an RV size that fits your family and camping style. We chose a large 10 person RV so everyone had their own space
