What a trip to remember! We will definitely be back to Bar Harbor, Maine.

Our visit coincided with a 13% waxing crescent Moon that set early in the evening, giving us the perfect dark skies to capture the Milky Way. We scouted several locations throughout Acadia National Park, and the Gulf of Maine Overlook and Thunder Hole quickly became our favorites.

Unfortunately, Thunder Hole was busy with visitors using lights, and being so close to the road, some of my images were washed out. I still have several Milky Way photos to process, but this one from the Gulf of Maine Overlook is my favorite so far.

Captured with my Spencer’s Astro-Modified Canon R6 Mark II, Sigma 24mm f/1.4 ART, and iOptron SkyGuider Pro tracking mount.

I can’t wait to get back under these incredible Maine skies.

My parents recently left Vermont and moved to Florida. My dad has been imaging the sun, taking advantage of the warmer temps and the excellent seeing conditions.

Sunspot region AR4366—about 10× wider than Earth—is producing powerful solar flares, including multiple X-class blasts. It’s one of the most active regions of Solar Cycle 25.

I captured this white light image of the sun today, Februay 2nd, using my ZWO Seestar S50 and you can clearly see this huge, complex sunspot group right on the solar disk.

Northern Lights through the clouds at 6:00 PM EST (2300 UTC - January 19th) from my backyard in the Northern Adirondacks. If you have clear skies or even thin clouds, we just got hit by a solar storm that is triggering a great show! 🤩
