Is Cinestill Okay?

Cinestill seems to have soiled themselves. Over the past few weeks, the film company, Cinestill has decided that they are going to bully, and threaten smaller film retailers who sell competitor's film stocks.

Cinestill has been with us for a few years now and it's not a big mystery what they do. They don't make anything. They re-package Kodak Vision 3 500T film, remove the rem jet and then sell it as Cinestill 800T. The company's recent behaviour has caused quite the controversy in the film photography community.

In this video, I talk about all of the recent controversy surrounding Cinestill film, and what as a film photography community we should do about it.

Well, today I have some good news and some bad news from the green meanies at Fujifilm.

I recently stumbled upon a press release on Kosmophoto from FUJIFILM which states that they are taking measures to address the challenges posed by soaring component and raw material prices, as well as increasing transportation costs. As much as they've tried to manage these costs internally, they find it difficult to absorb them entirely, leading them to make some pricing revisions.

According to the provided table, we can expect price increases ranging from 13% to a staggering 88% on various photographic film and INSTAX "instax" products. Unfortunately, the release doesn't provide a detailed breakdown by film type, leaving us with some uncertainty.

Fujifilm mentioned they are working to improve production efficiency for photographic film and INSTAX products. However, it's not entirely clear how they plan to achieve this or if it might lead to changes in the availability of certain film types, especially multi-packs. As film lovers, we can only hope that our favorite films will continue to be readily accessible.

As film photographers, this news might have an impact on our shooting habits and budget planning. The price adjustments might make us think twice before loading up on film, and it's essential to be prepared for these changes.

Kodak actually developed a film stock along with the United States military. The military needed a color infrared film to help identify enemy combatants in WWII. Kodak was the leading film producer in the world and was happy to help. This collaboration with the military resulted in Kodak Aerochrome. Kodak Aerochrome is a color infrared film that was initially used by the military, but was eventually released to the public for use. In this video I aim to tell the story of Kodak Aerochrome, and show some examples of its uses in film photography.

In the 1930s, Kodak would release one of the most special films in its history - Kodachrome! The film would provide some of the sharpest, most vibrant photos ever seen. In this video I talk about the Kodak film Kodachrome, the effect it had on the the film photography industry, and discuss whether Kodak will ever bring this film back. In this video, we explore the possibility of Kodak bringing back their legendary film stock, Kodachrome. This iconic film was loved by photographers for its rich, vibrant colors and fine grain, and its discontinuation in 2009 was met with sadness by many in the photography community. But with the recent resurgence of film photography, there has been renewed interest in Kodachrome and speculation about whether Kodak will bring it back.
