I don’t post on social media much. Over the years all socials have slowly evolved into something that is full of comparison. It’s full of “This person has this many followers”; “this person shot this wedding in this location”; “this person traveled to that country”; “this person has this kind of house”. We have turned it into something that, instead of just sharing our lives, inspiring one another, showing our work, we are often times working to further ourselves and lift ourselves up ahead of someone else. It used to be that if we had an opinion, or did something really cool that we could either share it with a few good friends and family or just keep it to ourselves. Now, everything has to be “shared” or made into “content”. Everyone has all of a sudden become “experts” in all fields. Everyone is a “brand” now. We have turned our society into a shopping mall of “brands” rather than a culture of people.
I don’t post on social, not because I don’t have things to share, but because I feel like “oh, this isn’t what the trends are” rather than “I love these images and this work and I want to share them”. It used to be that we shared because we loved it and because we wanted to serve clients well. Now it feels like we, as a culture, are sharing because we want to boost ourselves and “keep up”. It’s gross.
So, with that being said here are some recent photos that I love, not because they’re “trendy” but because I love them and I am very proud of them. I am proud of them because they tell the story of what these precious days held. I am proud of them because of who these people are. I am proud of them because I had fun and wanted to share. I hope to get back to sharing work because I am proud of it, not because culture tells me I need to boost myself and “my brand”.
