Lassen Peak in Northern California erupted in a spectacular display of natureβs power, making it the only volcano besides Mount St. Helens to burst to life in the contiguous U.S. during the entire 20th century. Scientists estimate that the blast sent ash plumes miles into the sky, reshaping the landscape and forever earning Lassen Volcano its place in geological fame.
