Happy National Wildlife Day 🦊🦉🦅📸
In 2023, I made a New Year’s resolution to step outside of what I knew and shoot a completely different modality of photography. I had no idea that one little resolution would turn into my absolute favorite kind of photography.
Wildlife photography has become so much more than taking pictures of animals. It has taken me on incredible adventures, allowed me to be creative in ways I didn’t know I craved, and brought me some of my closest friends people who started as fellow photographers and became the ones who stood beside me through some of the hardest moments of my life.
And somewhere along the way, the animals started teaching me too.
They’ve taught me patience that sometimes you wait hours for a moment that lasts seconds. They’ve taught me resilience, watching them survive, adapt, protect their families, and keep moving forward. They’ve taught me that not everything can be controlled and that sometimes the best moments happen when you least expect them.
Most importantly, they’ve taught me to slow down and be present. To appreciate the moment before worrying about the photograph. To watch the sunrise, breathe in the fresh air, and remember that even during the hardest seasons of life, there is still so much beauty in this world.
What started as a New Year’s resolution became a passion, a community, a creative outlet, a place of healing, and one of the greatest joys in my life.
Here’s to more sunrises, good company, muddy boots, long lenses, missed shots, unforgettable encounters, and lessons from the wild. 🤎🌲
