As Summer comes to an end here in Washington, I am taken back to this Summer Solstice elopement in Olympic National Park.

Yes, the leaves and the heather meadows are already turning orange and red here in the PNW. Sweater weather and moody skies are upon us.

Summer is a quick season here in the Upper Left.

This elopement feels like the embodiment of Summer here in Washington, especially the start of the season for the solstice.

Admiring the plants.
Looking for banana slugs.
A moody sunset in the mountains.
Playing in the glacier-created lakes.
Sipping coffee in the sea's salt air.

Enjoying nature for all that it is.

Olympic National Park, no matter the season, has a way of making you relax, take deep breaths, and slow down.

To be present, aware, and in awe.
It feels romantic, but also adventurous.

This region of the world has been on my mind a lot lately - the eastern sierras!

Each elopement we've helped plan and photograph in this area has been SO special, part of that being because each of the couples had a connection to the area. For some it was where they started dating, where they said I love you, where they'd escape the city, where their partner taught them to climb and so on....

One thing I love about this area is that it's not over ran with tourist.

A second thing, it's stunning with diversity from hiking, climbing, star gazing, fishing or sitting in natural hot springs.

Not to mention, family friendly!

Hi 👋🏼 Indy's mom here and your adventure elopement photographer.

Doing van life, hiking and canyoneering with a cat has taught me patience like nothing else in my life.

Patience with high reward.

Which is usually true for elopements with family.

Most our couples bringing family to their elopements have loved ones that don't outdoors the same way they do, that are usually not used to being in such remote places.

Usually for the parents and grandparents it's also their first introduction to a wedding of this style.

Patience, understanding and gentle guidance can go a long way.

To have the perfect elopement day with family though, I 100% believe that proper planning effects that.

While adventuring with the cat safely also requires an amount of proper planning, my 8+ years of experience as an elopement photographer and having my own family "drama" has shaped how I help couples craft a day that'll allow for the best experience with their family at their elopement.

There's a few important things to really consider while planning...

✨ expectations, knowing family won't change for this event. What can you realistically expect from them on this day?

✨ not going beyond their limitations, don't try to hike your family up a mountain if they don't have the ability to do that.

✨ set quality time, for you two, but also with your guests, separately

✨ expectations, yes it's here again, because you're eloping, anything can happen with weather, so setting expectations around what you may or may not be able to do with back up plans with guests in tow

Colors affect our moods fast, changing how we feel. 

While most people select their elopement locations based on the views, thinking about the colors may also be an important consideration when crafting the overall feeling and vibe of your elopement experience.

The blues of glaciers and water can feel calm, peaceful, and expansive. 

Deep forest greens feel grounding, intimate, and alive. 

Fall oranges, reds, and golds bring warmth and nostalgia, while colorful wildflowers can make a landscape feel joyful and playful.

Desert tones, rust, sandstone, dusty pinks, and warm neutralism, can feel earthy, dramatic, and timeless.

Your elopement location isn’t only something you’ll see. It’s something you’ll feel. 🥰

I first saw Traci & Bill’s work in a Facebook Let’s Just Elope group, and I instantly knew I wanted them to be part of our day. After finding their website, I went through every page and every link, and it was so obvious how much experience, passion, and care they put into what they do. I knew I had to reach out.

From the very first message with Traci & Bill, I knew we were in the best hands. Not only are they incredibly talented at what they do, but they are also two of the kindest, most welcoming people we have ever met.

Through the headsets came words of complete joy, excitement, and endless stoke.

Day 2 of Courtney + George's Alaskan elopement....

The Alaska weather gods really showed off for these two, gifting them a day with conditions that offered a flight tour unlike any other!

This day was all about celebration, exploring Alaska, and relaxing!

We started off at a location they had been eyeing for some time now to set up a "base camp" to have lunch and cake. While they were touring the area via helicopter, one of their favorite things to do together is to backpack and camp, so we wanted to honor that in their images and experience.

Then, when our pilot said, there are some places I would like to take you, we left our ideas at the door and was stoked on his stoke!!

We flew across the glaciers, ice that looked completely unreal, mountains that towered dramatically out of the ice. Climbing up into the mountains. Then in a split second, it was open sea, waterfalls everywhere along the mountain ridges, glaciers meeting the ocean.

We were all in awe.

Luckily, we even got to land somewhere the pilot had never landed before and check out the views of Prince William Sound via a mountain ledge, by a waterfall.

From there, knowing George's love for geology and rocks, the pilot took us to a ridge, not usually accessible due to wind, where it was rock galore; Stoke was high!!

To end their tour, we ticked off the things we knew they wanted to see going into the tour: of course, an ice-blue glacier pool and the glacier wall! As George said, "There is nothing like landing on a Glacier."

It was a day of being in awe of the landscapes, a day with laughter, excitement, and bliss.

A one-of-a-kind day to set the tone for kicking off their honeymoon!
