My best buds are becoming parents 🥹

The last few months have been filled with friends/family maternity + newborns and it’s an incredible shift to witness. It is deep, profound, heart-wrenching joy and I lose my words trying to describe it.

It also does not come without anxiety and unknowns, quiet prayers and a whole lot of shaky hope - but I will never grow tired of what it means to witness it all and love others through it.

It’s a privilege to be in your corner, cheering you all on.

This video is sponsored by feels and “mmmm”s.

The wedding industry is wild these days (and has been for a long time). As someone who has photographed over 150 weddings and is now currently in the thick of planning her own - there is a LOT of noise from all different directions.

My saying of “epic love not *always* epic locations” is more a reminder (for myself and others) that the wedding is a big deal, absolutely, it’s the start of the next phase of your relationship and it’s saying yes to choosing your best friend always. BUT - there’s a lot of pressure to go grand with everything, go luxury, go epic, be one of a kind, be memorable - woah.
Breathe.

It’s also about love that feels like home, a safe place for your heart to land, a steady friend to lean into.

And this photo reminds me of that.
This photo feels like a marriage - not just the wedding day.

I don’t know if there is anything I feel more passionate about than this.

I wanna photograph your kid lighting up showing me their car collection, or how high they can jump, or how fast they can go on their bike. I want cookie crumbs on their cheeks or blueberries squished in their fingers. Give me bare feet and dirty knees. Kids relax and embrace photos when they feel seen and in control. Let them run the show.

Show me their CHILDHOOD.

I promise when they are grown, these are the photos of them you will reach for. These are the images that you’ll be able to hear/smell/feel/breathe life back into.

I promise to get a couple portraits of them smiling at the camera.

But after that, LET THE KIDS PLAY.
And while you’re at it, join them 🫶🏽

I lived with Emily 9 years ago (woah!) and I remember talking about motherhood then. I’m SO excited to cheer her and Lou on through parenthood. The absolute LUCKIEST kid.

All 35mm except for 3 digital “back up” shots I couldn’t resist.

That first image was one of my favorites the moment I took it - and look, I know some people won’t get it. And that’s okay!

This family just added another beautiful baby and sweet Betty is up there like, let’s not forget who came first. It’s humor and honesty and transition and all kinds of different love exchanges all in one image. It’s a big representation of this season for them.

I feel the same way about slide 4. The HANDS and LIMBS. The busyness. The need. The chaos of life on the floor in a family. My word - it’s everything right there. So much life happens on the floor when you have two little kids.

This whole session was magic.

Caroline let me fully in - right from the start with their last shoot a few months ago, when Sophie was still growing. It’s an absolute trust-fall to invite a stranger in and believe that they will see your corner of the world the way you want it seen - and the way you yourself wants to remember it.

I SWEAR I hold that trust so sacredly.

I believe deeply in this work, and I know that it doesn’t always feel like a necessity while the world is burning.

But when we can’t hold those we love, we can hold onto pictures of them. We can remember the sound of their laugh and the smell of their cheek when we kiss it when we have a tangible photo of it happening.

If you invite me into your world, I promise to document as much of it as possible. And I promise to ask you real questions about what is most important to you - because this is all about you.
