I remember when I first started this project, the moment I had learned of the coming demolitions I had requested to photograph all three. I was declined. Once word started traveling on what was occurring I my documentation of these churches went from “should be okay” to “the diocese is no longer entertaining having you share this process”.
Unfortunately, all three were swiftly demolished, and I was unable to ever set foot in them.
I have never seen the last two videos, this video is a screen grab of a video released by Save Our Steeples; if you’re curious about how the demolition of these churches occurred I’d recommend watching their video on the matter.
I will not state my opinion on the situation, because I have the fullest respect for the various dioceses of Ohio and trust the right decisions were made. I do strongly believe it’s unfortunate that I was shut out from documenting these buildings; finding photos of their interiors is slim pickings.

~ In 1840 first parsonage and log church were completed and in 1853 their first frame church was completed. In 1868 the frame church was enlarged with the addition of a vestibule, bell tower, and steeple. ~

~ In 1893 the Frame church was moved two adjacent lots west onto donated land so the new church could be constructed on the corner lot. This began construction of then “Noll Church”. This brick church (Current church) included four tower clocks, and two bell towers. ~

~ Educational addition added in 1911, dedicated in 1913. Second addition, “Kunst Addition” started and completed in 1923. ~

Thank you all for the TREMENDOUS support of this project, I am very excited to share with you all that so far in June Churches of Ohio’s posts have been viewed over 1,500,000 times.
For some that may not seem like much, but for me, I never imagined my little project of sharing our beautiful Ohio Churches would be so well received…
Every year this project grows substantially and I’m so excited to see just what it will grow to!

In a few days I’ll be visiting Cincinnati and Covington, KY. So be sure to stay tuned for that!

This window was an honor to be allowed the privilege to even photograph. It’s a Tiffany Studios window that can be found within the small, but Opulent Huntington Chapel within Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, OH. This Chapels whole interior was designed by Tiffany himself and contains several stunning windows, marvelous mosaics and immaculate plasterwork. Part of this project is to record all words found on windows. Any window I photograph the words are recorded exactly as written.

Below, the Peggy Thompson Memorial Window.

“To the glory of God, and in sacred memory of Peggy Thompson. Who died at Franklinton, Ohio, in 1807. This window is dedicated, Jan-uary 9th, 1902. She is the first woman whose death is of record within the territory now occupied by Columbus. Of her brief residence in the infant settlement at Franklinton little is known, except that she was a communicant in the first Presbyterian Church organized in Franklin County. Her body rest in an unmarked grave, but her spirit dwells in the unfading light of immortality.”

A truly amazing photo, Cincinnati, OH. The intersection of Eighth and Plum Street, view from the east and above showing (left to right) Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains (1844), Plum Street Temple (1866), city Hall (1888), Unitarian Church (1860s).

The only building to have been erased by time from this photo is the Unitarian Church on the bottom right of the photo.
