What an epic launch! Nancy Grace Roman heads to L2 to make amazing and wonderful discoveries!!

A whirlwind of a weekend, spent at the Press Site at Kennedy Space Center Saturday and Sunday participating in events for the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman space telescope! Spent some very hot hours in the Florida sun setting up remote cameras at the launch pad for Spacepoint and at 7:26 Sunday morning, with weather giving us a 50% go-for-launch chance, we were blessed with a gorgeous sight!! Yesterday marks a promising step forward with the successful launch of the Nancy Grace Roman telescope on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 7:26 am EDT.

Much of Florida is still in a drought, despite heavy rains. The water table remains very low, and even some of our natural springs are beginning to stop flowing. I’ve had few opportunities to photograph lightning, but the storm that produced these bolts did not hold back. I got in a few good captures before the heavy rains blanketed the area.

I especially love how the lightning illuminates the sheet of rain falling as the storm surges through. My little dog, Cooper however, not as much of a fan.

NROL-95 launch at 3am this morning under cover of darkness, a classified mission suspected to be a next-gen Naval Ocean Surveillance System satellite.

A lucky shot after being clouded out for a few hours at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park. I couldn't get the astropad camping spot, but to be honest, those spots are not great for Milky Way shooting because you point SE, right at family camping and headlights when you use the pads.
